No she wont and the reason is, expensive production suits investors and those who make money in such dealings i.e. the government. A cost of 7.5 cent or 75 cents/unit does not affect the government, but common people and our governments are not in business of giving relief to the commoners. New housing societies need to have dedicated power generation units using alternative means such as wind and solar wherever possible. That is the only way of ending (to some extent) the hegemony of the government on power tariff. In worst case scenario Pakistan will stop using oil and replace it with cheaper options.

But it can't handle load anywhere near that.
That is the point, isn't it? We have that much installed capacity, why going for more without developing a robust distribution system? You can have as many generation units but they'll not add anything in the gird if the grid is not ready to take up the load. Why this 2.4bn deal not signed for the improvement of the grid? Because there is not as much commission and publicity in it.But it can't handle load anywhere near that.
The power distribution network is the problem Sir, not the generating side.

For first 12 years its 8.9 cent, after that 5.1 cent for 18 years.

We should also go for solor and wind energy as well
I agree. We need to explore all options including nuclear. We just cant rely solely on oilBoth are expensive but still better then oil.
The cost of adding new capacity is still quite high, relative to the buying power of the people who need it. How does one resolve this issue? The same basic imbalance remains, no matter how you run the numbers.
Not really. It all depends on ROI, which in turn depends upon the feasibility of the project. If it is there, as is the case in matter relating to the present thread, investors will come and invest. Coal-based and hydro-based power stations have the desirable economies for investors to get decent ROI. Its just that in our case, everybody knows that we are desperate and they are charging accordingly. A few people are ready to make a lot of money off Pakistan's energy hunger.
Our problem is with lack of foresight and corrupt leaders. Coal-powered stations could have been constructed a decade ago.
I dont trust Pakistani officials, govt and news...we need to hear it from Chinese otherwise its just all paper projects.
