140 out of 193 UN member states are in Turkey to take part in the 11th Turkish Olympics
Bursa (AA) - Among 193 member states of the United Nations (UN) are 140 to take part in the 11th Turkish Olympics in Turkey.
Turkish Deputy Prime Minister Bulent Arinc participated in the Bursa leg of the11th Turkish Olympics and Culture Festival on Friday.
Speaking at the festival which was attended by students from 16 different countries in Turkey's northwest province of Bursa, Arinc said 193 member states of the UN could not end the ongoing conflict in Syria for three years but the Turkish Olympics did adding "One of the 140 countries in Turkey to take part in the Turkish Olympics is Syria."
Students taking part in the Olympics come from around the world to sing songs and recite poems in Turkish, said Arinc.
Arinc said the theme of 2013 Turkish Olympics was " universal peace".
"This is a festival offering peace and love we have been longing for. What is happening in Syria is a great tragedy. Thousands of people were killed and more than one million had to flee the country. If there is an 'alliance of civilizations' then we can achieve peace, dialogue and tolerance and people take each other as they come. The Turkish Olympics have achieved peace. These young people coming from Asia, America, Africa, Europe and speaking our language promise a new world to us," said Arinc.
The Turkish Olympics have been organized since 2003.
