13th ECO Summit: Islamabad-Pakistan

Okay here is the first success story from ECO. Iran and Turkey have decided to resume piece talks on Syria because of ECO a job well done by Pakistan.

Iran, Turkey presidents meet to defuse tensions
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani and Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan agreed on Wednesday to improve ties, including in the fight against terrorism, Iran’s state news agency IRNA said, following some angry exchanges between the regional rivals. Tehran and Ankara support opposite sides in the conflict in Syria. Largely Shiite Muslim Iran backs the government of President Bashar Assad, while Turkey, which is majority Sunni, has backed elements of the Syrian opposition. Last month Erdogan and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu both accused Iran of trying to destabilize Syria and Iraq and of sectarianism, prompting Tehran to summon Ankara’s ambassador. Erdogan and Rouhani met on the sideline of an economic cooperation summit in the Pakistani capital Islamabad, IRNA said. (Reuters)

In another conciliatory move by Turkey on Wednesday, Cavusoglu told IRNA in an interview that Ankara had appreciated Tehran's expressions of support for his government during a failed military coup against Erdogan on July 15, 2016.

"Iran was with us to support our government in every minute at that night while some other countries only called us days or even weeks after the attempted coup," IRNA quoted him as saying.

Pakistan will facilitate Chabahar port of Iran with CPEC.

ECO decision reached. Indian investment going down the drain.

Like they have addressed Pakistan's energy woes uptil now?........Been hearing about Iran gas pipe line since 2006 and this is 2017 now . Sorry but these summits are just like the frequent foreign tours made by our elites and their families. All facade.....:agree:

sometime you need to stop bitching about everything

Afghanistan will be bypassed in regional connectivity if Afghanistan is not going to get it's things straight.

Hehehe Pakistan will fecilitate an alternate for Gwadar, don't think so. Currently Iran deal with US is in uncertain phase. India has slowed down its commitment to Chabahar [partly due to its bureaucracy and US issues with Iran], not walked out of the agreement they have still put some money of their budge5t on Chabahar port construction.
Only thing of major interest in Pak-Iran ties is energy and oil refinery in Gwadar where Iranian sourced petrol, etc.. will be refined. And Iran increasing electricity output to Gwadar, Turbat areas.
Gas pipeline is dead as Pakistan has no interest in funding parts of the pipeline, as its getting gas from GCC.
It is a small port and in no competition with Gawadar. The main project is connectivity of the region which will be supported by CPEC.

GCC gas deal will be rejected soon for being too expensive. We have already paid heavy amount for Qatari gas.

@BHarwana
OMG you have actually no idea.
Chabahar is 2 ports not one, Iran acc. to agreement will handover the port to Indian operator India Ports Global for 10 years.
India has pledged to develop both incl. reconstructing container handling facility. India's bureaucracy shenanigans have put them already behind schedule, they were suppose to handle 30000 TEUs (1 TEU = Container) by 2018 and eventually 250,000 TEUs per
Existing congested Iranian Port Bander Abbas is not deep sea water port with capacity limited to 100000 tons can't dock ocean liners> 100000 tons. Dubai ports handle bulk of their shipment e.g. 250000 tons of Cargo are put into smaller 100000 ton ships onward to Bandar Abbas. Afghanistan has security and other issues on which india is also financing rail and road links to Afghanistan.
I
Problem is'nt only economic. One would have huga indian worforce next to Gwadar, Modi sold this idea in his country as mean to destabilize Pakistan thru financing terrorists like afghanistan and check China military use of gwadar port.
Kulbhushan Yadav aka Hussein Mubarak Patel businessman from Chabahar is one proof of this problem Pakistan is going to face.
U can read wikipedia for more info.

Pakistan/China (CPEC) is developing RLNG power projects so LNG will be imported from Qatar for the foreseeable future. Iran gas also had a pricing issue, it was'nt cheap.

Actually it is Iran dilly-dallying on Chabahar now. They were supposed to file paperwork with the bank in India and had been prolonging it for 8 months. India is getting concerned.

No mention of Kashmir in ECO declaration while mentioning Armenia-Azerbaijan dispute is surprising.
