1000MW WIND POTENTIAL IN PUNJAB

Punjab Government and Vestas, a Danish manufacturer of wind turbines, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to support the development of wind power projects in Punjab.

The understanding was signed after a briefing to the Chief Minister, Shehbaz Sharif.

Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan Jesper Moller Sorensen was also present at the occasion.

Following a meeting with the Chief Minister in June last year, a detailed analysis of the wind resources in the Punjab by the Danish company has revealed potential for four large scale wind farm sites with a total installed generation capacity in the order of 800 to 1,000 MW.

I hope it goes beyond MOU. The next stage is LOI ( Letter Of Intent ). This means that the parties involved are serious. The jury is out.

The best place for Wind Power is in Coastal Areas in Punjab Wind doesnt follow very fast compare to Coastal areas of Sindh and Baluchistan so this Project should be Initiated in Gawadar, Ormara or Karachi first instead of Punjab.
