10 US ships headed to Japan

Ah, the "Why would you send an aircraft carrier?" diatribe.

1. No other ship can get to the scene of a disaster faster with as many assets.
2. The aircraft carrier Ronald Reagan is a self-contained airport that can provide air traffic control to many other aircraft than it can carry, providing safe separation for air rescue efforts.
3. The aircraft carrier carries a number of very capable airplanes and helicopters capable of search and rescue, medical evacuation, and relief supplies deliveries.
4. The aircraft carrier has a 55 bed hospital with a 3 bed ICU to treat injuries.
5. The aircraft carrier can provide power to the dockside if it can find an undamaged one.
6. The aircraft carrier can provide hot meals 24 hours a day for thousands of people more than its crew.
7. The aircraft carrier can provide clean water from its own desalinization plant for many thousands of people.

There is are also two assault ships, the USS Essex and the USS Boxer, which carry eight to twelve helicopters/CV-22 Ospreys each, with amphibious vehicles and almost 4,000 Marines to assist in disaster recovery, search and rescue, medical evacuation, etc. Theses ships have bigger hospitals than the USS Ronald Reagan and the same sort of air traffic control capability. With them will come 5 more amphibious operation support ships which can provide over the beach support and landing craft and the USS Blue Ridge a command and control ship that should already be at sea after loading a humanitarian assistance/disaster relief package in Singapore over night.

For a guy who is from the war torn Iraq, you have mastered the english language pretty well. Your knowledge of fleet informtion is very impressive. When did you move from Iraq to US ?

Where is the US during the Sichuan earthquake which had claimed the lives of 300,000 civilians including 100,000 children? Chinese coastal regions have also been hit by the same earthquakes killing hundred but western media has remained silent on this.

The U.S. has offered aid to China during past disasters and been politely turned down. Though it has helped to transport aid from Taiwan that was accepted by China.

Can both countries do without help from other countries? of course.
This is not hatti. that being said there's no shame accepting help from any country even with people you might have conflict with.
in matter of fact it could bring people closer together.
when katrina hit, there was a group of african villager( very poor by western standard) donated weaved blanket to the US.

funny this week my ol' lady and I went to a foreign adoption seminar and there was about 100 couples, 99% white. And all of them were looking to adopting "slant-eyed-gooks" babies.

I attended the University of Tulsa to get my B.S. in Petroleum Engineering almost 40 years ago. My English has improved, no, has recovered since I brought my family to the United States a few years ago after my wife died. The slang is completely different, of course. The "fleet information" is readily available with a simple computer search.

There are Americans and there are Americans. Ranging from 'Rednecks', Cowpokes, Hamburger Slingers, to people who ran the Peace Corps, Academicians and the like. Our Mr. Milvipes (probably) has seen and met only a small segment of them, hence his absurdly "generalised" statement.
