$1 bl Defense deal with Russia Includes:

@Loki another "Alice in Wonderland" thread??

Thread started from what Russians are giving BD in the $1 bn deal.

And now here we are talking about getting ET, J-31, su-35 & what not.

Gosh, BD section never stops amusing me :D

(Sorry, if i bought everyone BACK TO THE TOPIC)

Meh, we are just discussing as general discussion or even for fun :D

But realistically, BD would be able to acquire MiG-29 warplanes at best under this deal.

And how dare you miss out the F-15!?

That's why I believe mig SMT can do provided our AF is totally taken on board rather than forcing down their throat. Would have loved su35 but I guess it would remain a dream. :hang2:Btw what would be the possbile russian loss if they sell flankers via loans with high interest? Why do U think they may not sell it?

Just speculation really since I've never seen any Flankers being sold under a loan agreement. And besides, it is only $1 billion. Recall Vietnam's Flanker deal. And yes, it was paid in hard cash.

Then what about Jessore!! No, Jessore is the academy and in sylhet we do not have a established air base. besides Dhaka & Bogra can jointly cover sylhet. But yes, It would be nice having an air base in Sylhet.

I will not troll, but will talk about a different matter. It is about a supporting air/military base somewhere in Faridpur. Jessore and Bogra are two far away from each other. IA has a greater number of troops. So, it has the manpower to send one group to fight Jessore and another group to come behind Jessore cantonment, and yet another group to bypass Jessore to come straight to Faridpur. They cross the Ganges at Paturia-Aricha that leads to Dhaka. Then, of course they will be challenged by Savar cantonment.

So, how do you people evaluate the situation? Will the IA troops be entrapped between Savar and the Ganges? In such a scenerio, BA does not need a Cantonment at Faridpur point. However, on the contrary, without a cantonment the defense may also become weak at Faridpur point. Because, without a base there, Jessore cannot be reinforced at a short notice. So, if Jessore falls the entire SW of BD goes under IA control.

There were talks before to build a cantonment near the Faridpur-Barisal-Jessore-Rajbari junction 2.5 km away from the town. Lands were acquired, but the program is shelved now. I think, a cantonment somewhere near Faridpur is needed. What do you people think about it?

U can't have a true 4.5 gen fighter with 20 mn $$. Even JF17's expected future future blocks will exceed 25 mn $$ mark. And in terms of numbers I don't think we have enough financial might to build large enough numbers of 3.5gen fighters.

Btw bro, don't talk about PAK-FA. Dada ra shikhane involved. Rather lets pray that we have a politically favorable environment to go for J31 beyond 2025. Before that even Mig SMT can do provided our AF approves it and genuinely wants it.

This is always a big mistake complaining about the price tag, PAF has done that several times we missed some great opportunities. Go for better even in lesser numbers and slowly increase the Fleet it is logical.

In order to purchase J-31s in the Future BAF and GOB [Govt of Bangladesh] will have to satisfy Chinese Government regarding Indian involvement or possible Access. It would be similar to F-16s and Americans stationed at Air Bases for months before completely handing it over there would be some sort of strings attached or atleast restrictions.

Once Jamuna bridge were built cantonment was built near it. Once Padma bridge will be built there will be a cantonment in the east side of the Padma river.

There is a cantonment in Khulna division at Shiromoni area.

reminds me of this quote

48 Su-30MK 2011 price is $1.5bl.... so...!

Acquiring any NATO platform would be very expensive nonetheless. Much of our infrastructure, avionics, training and radars and such are compatible with Russian and Chinese war planes.

Acquiring some NATO platform would require significant changes in our infrastructure and training, and that'd be prohibitively expensive. Along with political strings if they are American birds. India would be using Rafale by the way.

So given the current scenario, along with the Chinese having engine issues, Russian jets are the only feasible option in the short term.

As I said, I only suspect that brand new Flankers aren't a part of the deal; so I may be wrong.

The Russians are simply charging too much for the Su-35. The Su-30MK2 may be an option in my opinion. Though, bear in mind that Vietnam's acquisition of Su-30's (12 units) back in 2010 costed well over $1 billion.

I sense that the end result would be the MiG-29SMT.

Never said that the J-31 cannot be looked into! :D

But that is all for the long term.

Yes, in 2010 Vietnam signed for 12 Su-30MK2V AC with $1bl. These were of quite heavily modified version. In 2009 Vietnam also signed a contract for 8 Su-30MK2 for $400ml (mind it, these were not second hand). So, I think there is still hope for Sukhoi...

LOL...utter hogwash

Review the 42 aircraft deal signed with India in 2011...:yes4::yes4::yes4:

To defend SW I think we need to focus on more Naval power. Khulna Command can be given importance like Chittagong. Mongla needs more teeth, infrastructure. With Jessore cantonment and air base, Khulna cantonment and more Naval strength on SW it'll be easier to defend any aggression. Faridpur is in the mid of map, one cantonment could be there but that will not be required for SW rather Dhaka will be more protected. I think strategically Dhaka has enough estalibshments to protect it. Unfortunately, whole the naval focus is on east coast, west coast actually needs similar infrastructure.

You mean Bogra cantonment..I didn't know it was built after Jamuna bridge was constructed. Which location do you mean by east of Padma?

Never heard of this cantonment before. How strong is this one? Is it as strong as Bogra?

No, Bogra was built long before Jamuna Bridge. This cantonment existed at the time of President Zia. There were rebellions there. So, there must be another smaller cantonment at the western foot of Jamuna Bridge.
