Morocco to negotiate acquisition of Russian S-400 ground-to-air missiles to reinforce its anti-aircraft defense (DCA), learns le360, the day after signing a Moroccan-Russian military cooperation agreement on Wednesday on the occasion of the visit of Dmitry Medvedev..

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev announced yesterday Wednesday (October 11th) during his working visit to Rabat, his country's decision to "deliver military products" to Morocco, but without specifying the nature of these products. Do not be deceived: it would not be the delivery of the famous Russian submarine "Amur 1650" fourth generation, nor Sukhoi bombers, as has been reported extensively by the media specializing in Defense issues. A military source contacted by le360 swept these calculations out of hand, stating that "the real need of the Moroccan army is not in submarines, nor in aircraft of war, in particular the F16, are sufficient. "

Actually there are number of Arab states, in the negotiation phase. In the coming few months you could see actual contracts being signed.

TBH, I would love to see us operating it, but as of now, there is no news.

This Moroccan deal came right after King Salman's visit to Russia.. just one day later the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev flew to Morocco to sign a defense agreement and made this announcement about his country's decision to "deliver military products" to Morocco..
There is also a strong probability for a Thermal nuclear reactor deal..

They are not just buying the hardware per se, but buying Russian goodwill as well. It would seems mid- east is realigning themselves slightly to neutral these days, but not out of US dominance...

There is no US dominance per se.. it is a choice to go for high quality products from the US.. it just happens that Russia also has some very high quality products to offer too..and with ToT..

The S-400 is an ADS as well as an ABM system, since it can use the S-500 anti-ballistic missiles at high altitudes.. up to 185 km for the S-400 and 200+ for the S-500..

Russia refused to sell S-400 to India unless they bought PAK-FA. Russians know how to play hard ball.

Turkey wants the S-400 missiles ToT.. this is a very hard demand on Russia as it was on China for the HQ system:

Turkey is a member of NATO and there are elements and military systems belonging to NATO located on its territory, Let's assume that Putin has agreed to transfer the technology of the system to the Turks, how can he ensure the secrecy of this technology in Turkey knowing that Erdogan himself does not trust the Turkish army!?
The opposition to the missile tech transfer does not come from Putin personally who would love to get the money to better the economy..it comes from the Russian high military command ..

Turkey may get most unique S-400 system as it will have Turkish made systems too, so no big issue for Russia.
