Cops shut down dance party in Lahore after cleric's threat

we all know what happens at these parties. Even after approval which law legalizes drugs and alcohol open use

If every one knows that according to you then what is the point of giving approval in the first place ?

well there is no mention of alcohol or drugs in the article.and even if there was drugs involve police has right to only arrest the parties involved not to shut down an authorized event(that can only be done if the drug pushers are the sponsors and the hosts of the party not on the whims of some mullah )

Is it owned by the federal or Punjab government? As far as I know it is a private venture, which as a consequence makes it private property.

Also, would you have prefered that majority of these people were searched, blood tested for drugs & alcohol and sent to jails accordingly?

It is better to shut such a party down where illegal substances are in use. And such parties are almost always organised by 'Dealers' where a $3 pill is sold for Rs5000 ($50) upwards!

clerics should be arrested for making threats

mullah will feel more powerful now thanks to the police. Who knows what more outrageous demands he will make in the future.

Let's not please beat around the bush. Police is always fully aware of what goes on in such parties and is almost always present as well.

If the police was doing it's job, most of the intoxicated/drugged people would be in jails without any 'mullah' threatening or whatnot.

with stunts like this our state itself is promoting the lawlessness and extremism.but when the cancer of extremism will spread in the whole country ( just like it did with TTP) they will start crying 'where did we go wrong ,what caused it' but then it will be to late. we are already seeing the symptoms of extremism caused by blasphemy law but instead of doing something about it we are adding more fuel to the fire by sending text to the general public inciting them further.

As for those saying Police is not authorised to shut the party down even if there were drugs etc, they are wrong! Failures of the organisers to stop selling/use of drugs leads to party closures in every part of the world!

Famous Dance clubs around the world have had their licences revoked for these exact reasons.

LAHORE: A dance party was brought to a grinding halt on the call of a religious cleric over the weekend, reports emerging from the city on Wednesday said.

Sunni Tehrik Lahore President Maulana Mujahid Abdul Rasool threatened police to either stop a party at Sozo Water Park immediately or “face the music”, officials confirmed.

Subsequently, the police and district administration ordered organisers to pack up and leave the venue right away, despite the fact that organisers obtained the approval of the deputy commissioner. Talking to The Express Tribune, Lahore Sunni Tehrik President Molana Mujahid Abdul Rasool said, “I will not let any such party take place; at least in Lahore.”

Bata Pur SHO said that over 2,000 people were attending the party, but it had to be stopped after a recorded message of the cleric started circulating among senior police officials.

Now this is crude, the youth have no freedom.... so sad not at all progressive

The Pic used shows modern youth and it is hard to figure out whether they are Pakistanis or Westerners.

I really wonder if they knew that what they were doing was anti Islamic according to Mulla Ji

It would surely be a great dilemma for this group as whom to follow : Mulla Ji or Music
Pic is for representational purpose only from REUTERS.

My guess is it would have been a dry party with Bollywood songs...wonder how can such a boring party attract police

Just follow the law guys.
the law doesn't distinguish between left or right.

i have seen people turn up to shut the mullahs who were misusing the loudspeaker and i have seen people turn up to shut the drunkards.

stop polarizing the society and not make a fight out of every little thing.

2000 people at a dry party .... hahaha ... this was a RAVE (where things like MDMA & Speed etc pills are sold and consumed), and you would know that if you've ever been to one!

Let's not kid ourselves here and come up with stupid things to defend closure of such a party ... if it is illegal then it is, no justification for it.

both links you provided are years old and are not about this particular event.

again i am not talking about this particular events but all the secret rave parties which are overlooked by administration after taking bribes.
you are rejecting the article like such parties have stopped happening

How could they get alcohol when it is not readily available in Pakistan? and how can 2000 Muslims agreed to have a non dry party?

Mostly it was a dry dance party like a kid's birthday party and the reason it got shut is because even dancing is considered haram in Islam. Not saying if its right or wrong just stating what could have been the obvious reason.
