The reason why Philippines decided to buy the "Karmota Class" frigate of India

@21 Dec 2012 @SmilingBuddha

According to Philippines Defence Bulletin, GRSE is still the front-runner and the reason for post qualifications of Korean and French frigates are to keep back ups in case GRSE doesn't qualify.

RE: Frigate Bidding Update
* GRSE's Post Qualification reportedly hit a snag, not technically but financially. The requirement is supposed to be for them to have enough capital for building the new Frigates, but this is lacking as of now as they only have capital for their existing projects. GRSE needs to address this issue before they can be awarded the contract.
* IMHO, this is only minor and GRSE should be able to address it, especially since India is quite generous with their military (GRSE is government owned), but I think they need to do it quickly.
* Unclear if GRSE is given a deadline to fix that issue, but the Navy is in a hurry hence they have scheduled a Post Qualification for HHI in South Korea also on the first week of June 2016, just in case GRSE isn't able to fulfill the requirement soon.
* Another Post-Qualification is also scheduled in France, though no specific date yet.

Just an update, I just confirmed that the scheduled PQ in France is not for the weapons, but for the Frigates. I assume this is for STX.
Not sure how it goes as STX reportedly submitted a non-compliant bid. What it may mean is that if they pass, we may end up with a Frigate that does not comply to all of the bid requirements.
But guess what, STX also has financial problems. The report below was from late last year.
It looks like only Navantia doesn't have any financial problems, but no PQ is scheduled for them as of now ...

GRSE really ought to have known better, if the rules about capital requirements were clear from the outset they ought to have ensured they complied to the letter. Of course, this is a learning experience for them as their first export order (potentially) but still, very silly and avoidable mistakes.

Good morning, time for education class
vessels have about 90% of Indian made equipment – either designed indigenously or built under license through technology transfer agreements

Like the T-90 which brag to have ToT? End up only 40% is indigenous produced in India. Remaining one still needs to be imported from Russia.

We all know where Indian industries stand :enjoy: No countries is stupid enough to ToT everything for another countries. Russia, US, French, UK and China are no exception.

Talk is cheap!

What is there to see? Italian main gun, French diesel engine, Russian Anti-submarine system. Italian helo and Russian CIWS.. Only the hull is Indian.

I am actually impressed with the indigenous content in this ship.

The hull, search radar and sonar are all indigenous.

It is misleading to say that it is 90% indigenous but not bad going India with this ship.

India should strive to maybe add it's own fire-control and SAMs for the next in the class as it strives towards
100& self-sufficiency.

Made in India under license, we haven't taken the decision to reverse engineer stuff like you guys. Also, do some research before posting anything on important topics

You can't , your industries is weak. The local production is BS. I can sure many components of oto melera 76mm gun and many sub system core parts are imported and then just an assemble job by Indians. ToT is just a loose term.
