Perhaps, but it's a heck of a lot more expensive than natural gas. Nearly all solar panels are made in China where there is no environmental regulations and cheap labor. If solar panels are built in the US, the cost would be 100 times that in China.

solar panels don't just soak up solar radiation out of the air, but not all solar radiation actually reaches the ground and is acually consumed by the atmosphere or is reflected back into space
