Sikhs are not Hindus - White House petition calls Obama to seek explanation from Modi.

Sorry to btt in here mate i come from a village about 10 km from phagwara. And about 40 per cent of my childhood friends are hard drug users be it smack prescription drugs and now chita also coming in big time.My best friend died through sharing needles at the age of 35.I n the villages it has spread like wildfire
Sorry man. :(

At times it seems vigilante justice or moral policing is good. :( I have almost never seen any anti drugs advertisement in Punjab, whenever I went. If today's generation is wasted like this...

I will need to go there soon. :agree: The situation will improve.

Try voting for independent candidates for the short term. When things are this bad, all parties are responsible. Getting addicted is easy, getting out of it is not.

How bad is the drug problem? I don't know much because never seen much of it. Yes, I have seen Patiala pegs and how comfortably all Punjabis have gallons of alcohol....but drugs? Not yet...may be I keep 'good' company.

Not meaning that drug addicts are essentially bad people. :disagree:

It's of Grave Concern. Apparently, every other person is addicted to it. Once can even find Females doing Drugs.

@Prometheus Do you wish to comment on it?

In stark contrast Kashmir's Sikh population is not much affected by this. None of my friends are. They are devout Sikhs even. :) Some even don't touch meat(that time I had lots) :P

But Sir what are the reasons for it ; have read about it and seen on TV
but still I am unable to believe it

Is it economic reason say poverty or unemployment or social reason
say people comparing themselves with the the wealthy and feeling bad about it

And which class of people are more affected ; poor or middle class or the rich

I heard that about Chandigarh. @Jaat Rock Sahi hai Na?

He is correct. This problem is not limited to Chandigarh. Just visit any known Disc in Delhi or Gurgaon, you'll find Male/Female doing Drugs.

At my office, females out number Males in Smoking. I've seen, Sikh Male's Smoking in India. I recently, saw a Kaur colleague Smoking which was really a shocker for me. This is Sin in Sikhism.

The smuggling is from pakistan border for opium and cocaine and himachal pradesh for ganja/charas.
The punjab govt knows it and is part of this trade.[/QUOTE
The sob badal and family get rich while punjab falls further behind

Yeah,,correct.
In my graduation ganja was 50:50 among men and women.I see no problem in it,if men can women certainly can too.

Any way..what is wrong even to make a separate Sikh as a separate religion in our constitution...They of course a separate religion but Hindus and Sikhs respect each other....Honestly...Sikhs are the people who are mosty apart from Khalistan times, stood for Indian civilization from the attack of invaders to our nation...So their interest should be protected...And also Sikh culture is the culture of our land.

I agree with everything in your Post. Hamare Desh Kay Bhagyavidhata ko yeh sochna chaiye air correct karna chaiye. :(

Lately many of my friends have been complaining about this. I knew it was prevalent in Delhi (even when I studying in a school there) but yes Punjab under the grip of drugs is a shocker.
I always thought the NRI culture of Kerala and Punjab brought in the alcoholism to these states but I've yet to figure out about drugs (may be from Afghan via Pakistan as Afghan is known for its opium farms and its production has increased in recent years)
