Defence ministry clears purchase of 118 Arjun Mark-II main-battle tanks

And here is where the Arjun faces SERIOUS issues right now- it is only very recently the IA has started to tackle the colossal logistical challenge they are facing by operating the Arjun (bridges can't hold the weight of an Arjun, need relevant road trailers, recovery vehicles, bridge layers etc).

@he-man is right to be skeptical but I don't think he is aware of the mountain facing the IA vis a vis adopting the Arjun as their MBT, it is not a simple "plug and play" system, it needs an entirely new eco-system to be created around it given it is SO different from the Medium weight Russian MBTs. As such it is fair for the IA to want to continue with T-90S orders for the near term, until all relevant infrastructure and systems are in place for the Arjun.

Just give the Arjun time guy, it is a real game changer for the IA.....

FMBT should be in production by 2021/2 and AFAIK the IA is looking for some 700-800 Arjuns (Mk.1s and 2s) also the IA is going to have to address their light weight MBT requirement some how (around 400-500 are needed). But I agree it is obviously an incredibly ambitious target but that's what is needed as India's adversaries are not going to be standing still.....

BTW, what happen to Tank EX? Is there any problem with that? Or IA receiving kickbacks.

There were some issues with mobility IIRC and was abandoned at the time to focus on the Arjun. I wonder if it is worth having a re-look at it now that the Mk.2 is almost finished its development and testing cycle. Could be more than a worthy contender for the IA's requirement for a light tank to replace the T-72 in the North and NE.

This "kickback" nonsense is unsubstantiated drivel used in the past to explain complex issues to do with the Arjun's delay in being introduced into service.

I think DRDO. should work on the derivative of Tank Ex for FMBT, instead of working on a whole new tank, it will be more speedy.

Especially with the amount of foreign systems going into arjun it should be better than t-90..................i am willing to accept that.

Russians are gonna unveil armata mbt next year and i fear it may well spell doom for fmbt....................
Im to thinking about that by looking T-95 black eagle Prototype was beast. Its gun, Armour :rolleyes:are superb. Armata is next gen shit indeed more improved I think it will catch eyes of IA.

No need, they should develop the Mk.2 into the FMBT in a Mk.3 version. The Tank EX is a bit of an outdated concept....

Okey.

But one thing I want to say, Arjun tank may not fit as much in Cold Start, but in Sundarji Doctrine, it perfectly fit.

Armored Arjun Regiments in Defensive corps, and T-90s in strike corps. Then pak will not even try to think to breach our defenses.

How do you come to the conclusion that the Arjun doesn't work for the stroke corps? I think it fits perfectly- it packs a much greater punch and with its improved situational awareness (thanks to data links), moves faster and is able to engage the enemy in a superior fashion- it would decimate the opposition.

We will have 500 plus arjuns by 2020

I am certain.

This new order will take nos to 349 mk1and mk 2

Not unless the armour will be improved it should get to the level of chobum.
Ps:their will be more fishes in the water by 2020 like Russian armata

No its 124 Mk1 and 118 Mk2 order only. But lets hope they atleast buy around 248 Mk2 and then switch to FMBT or Arjun Mk3.
Total order should be close to 490 to make the whole project worth.

Wow, IA plans on procuring only 500 Arjuns through 2020? Doesn't speak well of the tank's capabilities.

Even 500 is enough for all that PA owns:Dsecondly you forgetting javelins

T-80s alone will blow that junk out. PA is already looking at the MBT-3000/Next gen tank, which is stated to replace Type 69s, Type 85s. Thank you for your ignorance, and as usual dragging Pakistan in.

Yes, Pakistan with a total military budget slightly greater than India's military purchases this month with less access to international suppliers has somehow managed to get better weapons than India.

Makes complete sense.

What a stupid comment. AK and T-80s are proven tanks, that's all i meant. Arjun on the other hand has trouble securing orders from it's own place of origin. So either the tank is flawed and no one wants it or something else we don't know. If you can't keep up with facts, keep your usual trash for your trash can.
