At least 14 Tunisian soldiers have been reported killed and 20 wounded after gunmen attacked military checkpoints near the Algerian border, where the army has been conducting an operation to flush out armed groups, the ministry of defence told Al Jazeera.

The fighters, one of whom was reported killed, were armed with rocket-propelled grenades and rifles and attacked the checkpoints in the Mount Chaambi area.
Since April, thousands of Tunisian troops have been deployed to the area, where a small group of fighters have been holed up, some since the French military operation drove al-Qaeda-affiliated fighters out of Mali last year.
"They attacked military checkpoints in Mount Chaambi, there are dead and wounded in this attack with RPGs and rifles," Rachid Hawela, a defence ministry spokesman told the Reuters news agency.
The attacks came nearly one year after Tunisian soldiers were ambushed in the same region of Mount Chaambi.
Eight soldiers were killed in the attack on July 29 last year which happened several days after the assassination of opposition politician Mohamed Brahmi in Tunis, causing a political crisis in the north African country.
Tunisian security officials say the numbers of fighters in the mountains are only in the dozens, but the government has struggled to comabt the threat.
Last month al-Qaeda in the Islamic Mahgreb, for the first time, claimed responsibility for recent attacks in Tunisia, including an assault in May on the home of the interior minister that left four security guards dead.

qatar supports the terrorists, that's why they call them gunmen & rebels

Tunisia's government and Qatar have friendly ties so I doubt this. It's probably just AQIM as usual. Mr. Marlboro.

This photo is from a state visit in Tunisia this year in April.

Tunisia was also against the removal of Morsi.

Al-Ghannouchi defends Tunisian president's call for Morsi's release

Al-Jazeera calls every terrorist group for rebels. They do the same in KSA as recently as during that border guard attack a few weeks ago along the Yemeni border. They also did the same with the Houthi's etc. At least they are not very clear and they also have posted anti-KSA nonsense.

I don't know what they are trying to do sometimes.

The politics of this region are a mess.

The solution is to follow Egypt's example and jail them if they are spreading nonsense.

@Arabian Legend

What do you think bro?

When did all this mess in the region start? Can you remember anything similar from the 1950's, 1960's, 1970's because I cannot and I asked my parents and grandparents and they could neither.

Those were times of progress in the ME by large.

The only armed groups were pro-Palestinian groups.

"Miracously" most of the region's problems started after 1979 where a certain country had their so-called "Islamic" revolution and wanted to rule the entire Muslim world.

Since then the region has been engulfed in trash.

Islamists of both sides are the cause starting in 1979

What is your solution though, Islam used for political means should be banned they have brought nothing good in this time.

My solution to all this can be found below:

OIC Peacekeeping Forces needed. | Page 4

Post 55.

Aside from the usual things such as improving in terms of education, fighting corruption, preventing retards from hijacking religion for their political agendas, securing safety and stability for the people, making the regimes more inclusive for ordinary people like in Europe etc.

But nothing will happen before what I wrote in post 55 in that thread occur. That's my opinion at least and people can disagree with me. Fair enough.

Al Qaeda aren't 'Islamists' but more like rejectionists. They have many shady people within their ranks. They don't fight for protection of lands.

Those times were only when there were good people, such as Abdullah Azzam. Because he supported unity and Palestine, shady elements collaborating with CIA/Mossad murdered him.

There is no solution since it isn't about religion. Arabs lack religion no matter how many times they boast about being religious. In Egypt you have the military killing a thousand people in one day then having a Quran contest. In the Gulf, we talk about these Islamic initiatives when they are some of the most morally corrupt people I've ever seen.

You were born in a foreign country and never lived in the Middle East. Western ideas are not applicable to the Middle East, the situation is very different there. Stop thinking from the Western POV. The solution isn't to banish religion. People like religion there, it's more about the people as a whole who never had their priorities straight. It used to be all about cafes and belly dancers in the Arab world.

Same with other Muslims as well, Iranians aren't any better than Arabs. In fact, much more Iranians are probably agnostic and do not follow any religious tenets. Same with Shia in Lebanon and elsewhere. Muslims don't have the heart for religion, all they care about is lust. Which is why we won't solve any of our POLITICAL problems.

However, economically, if we can move forward and develop our societies that can work just as it is currently. I'm speaking of the seperatism, proxy wars, post- colonial era.

The truth is, none of us know of a solution and are in a desperate need of guidance. If God literally doesn't bring us someone to guide us we seem to be this way for a while.

The last things Arab states need are more mosques, they're brainwashed enough already, you call the Guflies morally corrupt, put mosques there with 'appropriate imams' spread your ideology and they will turn into terrorists that'll be much better ?

Since you like it that way why don't you fight it out with the fellow Islamists, Salafis/ISIS vs MB/Hamas, clashes erupted earlier in Gaza between the 2, it's clear you prefer the latter which is viewed as a more moderate group however Salafism is growing in Gaza.

Same with other Muslims as well, Iranians aren't any better than Arabs. In fact, much more Iranians are probably agnostic and do not follow any religious tenets. Iran would be better of having a regime not isolated to the world, better for it's economy & people. Though you prefer turning all those states into resistance HQ's against the west & Israel, yet you live the comfortable life in JEW USA.

Spare me all the god is planning, you're the one planning however you change opinion every week. Should I remind you of your pro Iran stance you wanted to nuke the Gulf, then anti Shi'a/Iran stance, now you're in the middle again.
