Unusual request...rightly turned down. But what's the hullabullo about? There's nothing in that room that the Chinese Navy wouldn't already know about, and a cursory glance at the room when it isn't operational will yield nothing significant either.

I think it's more to do with it being a breach of protocol. The captain of the ship was not authorized to let anybody enter the CIC when the ship is in harbour, no matter what his rank. It's not like seeing the CIC can reveal anything sensitive - you can get images of the CIC of American aircraft carriers if you simply use google. That part about sensitivity was probably the imagination of the reporter who reported this story.
