Iraq orders 24 Boeing AH-64D Apache helicopters, deliveries start this year

Attack Helicopters are the most potent COIN vehicle to date, during the Houthi conflict in South KSA and Northern Yemen the Houthis called the Apache the "Black She-Devil الجنيه السودا", for the amount of kick a$$ it inflicted on them, an apache formation took out the entire Anti-Aircraft capabilities of Houthis within the first 48 hours of the conflict, all their AAAs and MANPADs locations got hellfired.

If I am to name the weapon the won us the Houthi conflict I would hands down say it was the Apaches.

Didnt know they had AA capability.

Indeed the Apache is an advanced aircraft, 2003 Iraq they only managed to bring down a few.

Atleast the Apache and the MI 28 will save many innocent lifes, the desert areas are being used by terror groups as seen in vids uploaded by them.

Btw on the title, I assume it is the AH 64D, the AH 64E is the new version in production, not sure which 1 it would be that Iraq ordered or which congress has approved to Iraq.

Just economic benefits with KRG in which they are sometimes going against the Iraqi law.. for them that is less important then economic benefits, understandable even though it is not right. + Erdogan has some plans that go against the government, only nothing that will start a war I agree.
I view this equipment important to make the chance smaller of Iraq falling into proxy wars cause we are in the middle of Iran, Saudi arabia and Turkey, the chance of actual war is much smaller then proxy war for us today.

As for KSA, we're building up two giant hi-tech walls between Yemen and Iraq, so, we will make sure that no one comes in or out. Idk about Iran though, but the latter is heavily present in Iraq.

Iraq/Saudi border is empty, desert, unihabited, theres already a barrier there + with Kuwait built by the UN.
Iraq has built a barrier on the Syrian border but not efficient enough.

Irans influence is exaggerated, as the military grows it will have less influence in the country.

With a strong enough army, the internal anti-government movements will rethink 1000x before ever carrying arms, therefore Iraq will have a collateral and will be able to press its decisions in the region without having to fear internal threats.

Although it is already suicidal for any group to stand against the army face to face, proper air cover will decrease casualties by over 90%. Another problem is Using the Sunni-Shia tags for any movement the army makes. That will go away as well with a strong military.

True, many nations are building their own armed UAVs. What I'm trying to say is that many countries will refuse to sell you the know-how, and won't help you out to build it. Well, that's because of the climate in the ME.

No, China hasn't officially introduced its armed UAVs yet, it isn't operational yet. And Russia doesn't have armed drones.

Yeah I know about the sect conflict in Iraq. Shame that Iraqis were the most tolerant people in the ME, Sunni and Shia people used to marry from one another, let just hope things will get better though.

Typhoon didn't even have the SEP1 program update that allows integration of Air-Ground weapons yet at the time dude.

No it didn't, not at all. At the time it was still in the training squadron.

Well I mean wasn't it better to order 24 more ka-52 instead of ah-64
Iraqi pilots are more used to russian helicopters and there is nothing ah-64 can do that ka-52 cant do and by doing so the maintanance would have been easier and cheaper .

I am not sure why they chose AH 64, US remains the largest supplier of arms for Iraq, Russia is 2nd largest.
There already is a large inventory of light American helicopters, and the pilots are all new so it will not be a major problem.
Atleast the Apache has proven itself unlike the KA 52.

22 Apaches are to be operated by the RSAF, which has been operating it for ages, while the remaining 60 Appaches ,out of 82, are being operated by the RSLF.

Don't expect the navy to get its hands on any because they've got ~60 helicopters. But they will build their own Airforce wing though.
