India’s Missile Defence – Analysis

Not really.
Work is underway on MREV

Actually.......yes really.........
Advantage of MARV depends; when 2-4 interceptors engage a single missile MARV will hardly be that efficient, and BTW our BMD uses p-charge and not kinetic kill which again increases it chances of killing the missile.
Besides as per the 2011 AAD Interceptor missile test the target missile was maneuverable and AAD did kill it successfully.
And one can hardly believe an establishment that says that their missile(Babur) is ready only after its 1st publicized test when it has traveled only 22km.
SO u shud get the reason of my doubt.

For some reason Pakistan never even mentioned indian missile sheild.
Looks like Pakistani top brass simply doesnt care.
That shows either Pakistani military planners dont think Indian ABM is of any use against Pakistani missiles,or Pakistani missiles have some counter measures.

Or maybe you are not in their "need to know" team.

For several reasons, China’s reaction to an Indian missile defence shield is not the same as Pakistan’s will be. First, China is building its own missile shield, which consists of an exo-atmospheric defence provided by the Second Artillery of the PLA and an endo-atmospheric defence provided by the Air Force (Zhang, 2013). This is, however, not aimed against, or determined by, any possible Indian innovations. It is meant for the countries that China views as its major strategic challengers – the US and, possibly, Russia. India’s Agni series of missiles are still not deployed in large enough numbers to factor into China’s strategic calculations.

Best way to intercept a Ballistic missile is mid-course intercept. It gives you more time to track and destroys the missile and it can do it before multiple warheads/decoys are deployed.

India do not have a mid-course exo-atmospheric interceptor.

Hence it is best!

At what distance ABM should intercept BM in space, so as to call it a ideal mid course interceptor.

That is the case when the incoming missile is from a longer distance, between India and Pakistan the distances are very very limited and the reaction time is crazily short. Hence it is better for us to have end point interception.

Doesn't mean we aren't looking into such tech for China, however the maturity of China vis a vis Nuclear threat is much better so gives us time to develop. Pakistan's calculations are different as they are decreasing their nuclear threshold as and when our conventional strength increases year by year.

@sancho Can anyone tell me at what height in space should an ABM intercept BM to call it a successful mid-course interception.
I know it depends on the range of missile but I want if someone can explain it to me in layman term.

As far as I know the best/safest is boost phase interception by airborne lasers and thats what US is targetting these days.

^^^ Ok...thanks...i was unaware of that.
So Indian ABM has been placed into the equations....while planning Pakistani nuclear deterrant.
This may be the reason Pakistan has stopped building any new missiles, instead refining the existing.

Bro North Korea is in trouble... Even they are not making any new missile..:rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl::rofl:

I know that Sancho but India is more than two decade behind to achieve that capability(if ever). It will need indigenous GPS replacement navigational satellite and DEW enable laser technology capable fighters or some similar means in space. It will be foolish to dream about it.

Actually recently V.K.Saraswat has said that India will test ABM capability at 200km altitude. Thus having eagerness to know whether that can be called mid-course interception, because BM of 2000km range at mid course fly between 200km-400km altitude.

Dear Anony, I am not @sancho :), I just answered what I knew. But just to add the 200 Km is also quite a far dream.

but I heard US has terminated that plan because of high cost involved.

PDV missile is terminal phase exoatmospheric interceptor just like USA's THAAD system. You need long range ,and system of radars to track total trajectory of BM,Since LRTR has a range of 600km so by the time control centre reacts on it,The missile would have crossed to Terminal phase.
