The Attack on Pakistan's Erieye

the way the things are, the ISPR has lost the credibility and like you said there is a confirmed display of these crafts in an airshow or an exercise where people see them, we all will believe that they are gone like PN Orions. boy if I was Indian I would pray for the attackers not just to troll but to thank them for going only after the assets that were specifically against Indian airforce and Indian Navy. if they served their Islam in the process then good for them.

Am no conspiracy theorist, but this part always bugged me , why would an anti India Taliban kill assets which would never be used against it.. but be used against India....

TTP considers Naval and Air force strategic aircrafts threat to its existence
makes sense that it will only attack them and not the gunships

And ever since Adnan Rashid escaped from Bannu jail, attacks like this have been happening. Kamra, Peshawar and a couple of other attempts...I am sure Adnan Rashid is the master planner of these attacks.

Surveillance plane damaged in airbase attack: Qamar
Aug 17, 2012

Islamabad: A Saab-2000 airborne early warning aircraft of the Pakistan Air Force was damaged during the terrorist attack on Kamra airbase, Defence Minister Naveed Qamar has said.

The nose of the aircraft was damaged when a group of heavily armed terrorists stormed the airbase in Punjab province early yesterday morning, Qamar told reporters last night.

After initial repairs in Pakistan, the aircraft will be sent to Sweden—where it was manufactured—for an inspection, he said.

Speaking after he was briefed by senior PAF officials, Qamar said the aircraft was hit either by bullets or fragments of a rocket-propelled grenade fired by the terrorists.

It was not clear whether the plane was airworthy.

“A test flight of the aircraft will be conducted after repairing it,” the minister said.

Though the aircraft can be repaired in Pakistan, it will still be sent to the manufacturer for an inspection, Qamar said.

“The engineers and technicians of the Pakistan Aeronautical Complex have examined the partially damaged aircraft, and according to the initial report, this most advanced aircraft of the Saab-2000 category can be repaired,” he said.

Nine terrorists and two security personnel were killed during the attack.

The terrorists, who were wearing military uniforms and suicide vests, tried to target a hangar with RPGs.

Eight terrorists were killed within the airbase while another blew himself up outside the perimeter.

The banned Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan claimed responsibility for the attack, saying its suicide attackers targeted the airbase to avenge the killing of Taliban commander Baitullah Mehsud and al-Qaeda chief Osama bin Laden.

According to media reports, over three dozen aircraft were in the airbase at the time of the attack, including two Il-78 refuelling aircraft, 25 fighter jets and several Saab-2000 surveillance aircraft.

A PAF spokesman had said on Thursday that only one aircraft was damaged in the attack.

The PAF had acquired four Saab-2000 surveillance aircraft from Sweden in 2010.

I think Defence Secretary Asif Yasin has read the word destroyed instead of damaged :DDD

Why don't they impose some type of curfew around say 1 km around the entrance of military bases to all non essential personnel?

If someone still try to come close, shoot them.

If I'm not wrong, IAF got the permission to control/check the civilian roads near the air base where they see any threats from a civilian court on security grounds and this happened years back.

I believe zardari regime is using its resources and authority to facilitate indians, carry out their operations against securtiy forces.

Of course Zardari's media wing, is misleading the nation.

PAF/PA also have check posts inside cantts and around airbases, but there is only a limit to what you can do from those posts.

And terrorists don't come through roads!

This is already discussed many time + Share the source if there is anything new in it.

PAF had zero control of the area. Whatever the security was, it was inside the base. Since the attack the situation is different, i went to the base 2 weeks ago, the security was preety beefed up......funny thing is whenever i go there to see my uncle, the vigilant force parks their hilux right outside his quater :D

I'm talking about INDIA where army/IAF are based inside their cantt/bases. They can't have check points outside their premises. (apart from problem areas). So having a check point in a civilian/normal road by armed forces is not usual here.

what a shame, that he escaped
and even more shameful that he might find supporters and sympathisers among his family & general public.

May be they attacked India specific planes just to derail peace process. Isn't it obvious that people jumped to conclusion that India was behind this.
