Acting US Defense Secretary Patrick Shanahan has reportedly presented an updated military plan to President Donald Trump's administration that envisions sending up to 120,000 troops to the Middle East should Iran attack American forces or accelerate work on nuclear weapons

Citing unnamed administration officials, the New York Times said that Shanahan presented the plan at a meeting of Trump's top security aides on Thursday.

Tensions between Iran and the United States have intensified since Trump pulled out of a 2015 international deal to curb Iran's nuclear activities and imposed increasingly strict sanctions on Tehran.

Trump wants to force Tehran to agree to a broader arms control accord and has sent an aircraft carrier and B-52 bombers to the Gulf in a show of force against what US officials have said are threats to US troops in the region.

Iran has said Washington is engaging in "psychological warfare," called the US military presence "a target" rather than a threat and said it will not allow its oil exports to be halted.

The Times said among those attending the Thursday meeting were Trump's national security adviser John Bolton, CIA Director Gina Haspel, Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats, and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Joseph Dunford.

Several plans were detailed, the Times said, and "the uppermost option called for deploying 120,000 troops, which would take weeks or months to complete."

There is a difference between to stop work on the nuclear program and accelerating it.. which means enriching Uranium more than for civilian use..Allowed by UN sanctions..

Onslaught of US and West on Muslim world is an undeniable fact. It was to start after WW2, but had to be adjourned, owing to cold war with socialism. So, now it is on, since 1990, after defeat of socialism.

The US is using the full spectrum of options to neutralize Iran at the behest of Israel, and to some extent SA/UAE.

This is sabre rattling for right now but I do believe military force is as possible as it’s ever been as Bolton and Pompeo worry me.

Iran is well within their right to get Nukes, i think it was Stupid of them to stop working on it for Iran deal, as long as Iran doesn't have Nukes they will always be the target, get the nukes, turn them into the direction of Israel and that's it ..

Yes it is but the Iranians have time again shown that unlike Arabs when they come under pressure the unite ~ a trait shared with Turks. More the threat and more they will rally around and ignore their differances. The previous 40 years have amply demonstrated that.

I don't know, but somehow I have a feeling that US wouldn't go for a direct attack on Iran. Most of the Iranian posters on PDF also appear to entertain same view. This posture of war seems to achieve some other indirect objectives. I am praying that somehow Iran can avert this conflict and can make some level of reconciliation with this orange colored baboon.

Fully agree. Not expecting a formal revolt, but some kind of anarchy, because of economic breakdown, which seems to be the target of US.
