Hi Guys,

I want to build a farm house / Glass house in piece of land of about 50000 sq ft. Farm house should be of some 2000 to 2500 Sq Ft. I have checked so many design but I am yet to convince with any one. I request all of you to suggest some economical yet beautiful design of farm house which fits into my tiny budget. Herewith, I post some designs which has impressed me. Though they seem to be costly, I can take some clue to make a house of my dream. I am a poor man, so do not post very huge and costly design which I can not think think to make even in my dreams.
Some criterion I have fixed are

1) there should be a swimming pool and a fountain in the front.
2) Drawing room/ Hall/ living room should have glass at least two side.
3) It should have 4 bed rooms and one kitchen.
4) It should have a provision of terrace garden.
5) Bed Rooms should be of 250 Sq ft atleast.
6) Desugn Should not be boxy.
7) there should be some provision for plantation in house or adjecent area.
8) Ceiling height should be atleast be 11 ft.

Kindly suggest some good design. If I like that, you will be able to stay there whenever you come to India with your family and friends.

3. Find the best and oldest parsi (PARSI) designer and handover to him @padamchen will help you.

I don't want privacy. For privacy, bed rooms are there.



I know it's too costly but I want best design in my budget. I want it to be a master piece of design. I hope I would be able to freeze design in an year and half.

I like this one as cottage.

May be you are right but there need to be too big windows to enjoy beauty of Greenery outside.

why not... wish for a dream home after spending your fortune. the best thing will be to achieve your dream within your means.

you main challenge will be reliable and honest contractors and labour force. they tend to **** you up with over spread due to deliberate misguiding and waste and they have laugh behind your back,. this tendency is true for all races, religions and nationalities and all times these guys get dark humor by making the owner suffer.

knowing the costs and time and staying on top of your game might reduce your losses

also please hire a good architect and designer he / she will give you best options and advice specially given the climate and suitable material and your dream design.
may you achieve your dream soon and spend long time with your family and loved ones with pride and joy

Thank you very much sir. Your post conveys lot more than written it. Your just one post is enough to let me know how kind and innocent hearted human being you are. True, my life is a piece of life having lots of injustices and backstabing but yet god has given me enough to fullfill my small dreams. Yes, I will hire some good architect but I want to have some basic design my mind because I don't want anything less than best in my budget. I will invite you and many others when I will inauguratie it. I will post photos as well. I do have good contracrors working with me. They can do my work with almost no profit. I want to incorporate so many goodies into it. I have some very good friends there who will help me in this. I will go to see lands next month. I will keep informing here. A rough idea has started evolving in my mind. The most chellinge work is working out some good design. I will work on it for almost a year to freeze it. I expect some valuable feedback from forum members.

I understand that you are looking for aesthetically pleasing design which is challenging and has utility as well. having a rough Idea in mind is good. you might want to get a good 3 D program to start with a rough layout and then morph it as you add or remove design ideas. I would even go for SIM4 for a start until you get a proper program. I would like a design that takes advantage of the landscape and has some self sustaining features like some own electricity etc.

tell us about the topography, the climate and general weather conditions so that we can visualize it better.
given the harsh environment and very limited water and power issues I am eyeing for subterranean deign of my house with solar panels and means to conserve rain water if and when it falls to use for sewerage/ flushing and keeping fresh water only for drinking.

The area is almost a jungle with 60 to 70 inch rain fall every year. Electricity and water is not t all any problem. I want mountain to be visible from all of my rooms. I want to have an orchid some small landscape , garden , orchid and each room with different theams. One bayan tree is a must. Swimming pool with steps and shower. Main entry with large door and water body.

You have to sketch the life you want to live there, not now but 15 - 20 years down the line.
You have to define your present and future family, and the circle of people with whom you will grow old with.
Importantly with whom will your kids grow old with, and what kind of influences and lessons will they grow old with.

you have to understand power, need / supply and in the long run try to define some thing of a middle ground.
glass looks nice, but when it comes to power consumption during the summer months !
you have to know your family history, and see traits of any disease.
arthritis or hear disease means, you will have to have a design that is not dependent on stairs too much.

and there is so much more to think of... that is why I told you.
Find a PARSI, a real practicing old age PARSI.
the ones that have "engineer" and "merchant" to their names.
their architecture is probably the best in this region.

friend, firstly i dont understand feet; please use metric for heaven sake.

I assume you are looking for around 500m sq; single or double storey? what kind of architecture, do you want renewal option etc etc. Glass is no good; too much maintenance. You need to use either double brick or stone as we do here; roofing with R20 insulation and clay tiles. put mortar after double brick structure; gives it additonal layer and paint it light pink - yes it turns deep white in UV light. plus in summer keeps very cool indoor.

water usage/storage is another consideration u need. direct rain water to water storage units etc. inside tiles are best option.
