there was huge debate last 6 months that bd is getting hornets and jf-17 is scrap and j-10 is junk i read here .:what: and now after 6 months no one know it?
I saw that that really made me laugh, also I don't think were getting F/A-18 Super Hornets, Bangladesh Air Force have a long way to go to get that, what the news on their Air superiority fighters?

why do u want to start a new thread when one thread on BDAF already existis???

He is a new member. BTW, mod can merge it.

hey, this is a good thread. kudos for starting it

Well, In my suggestions for my BD brothers.

BD current fleet.

Combat
Mig 29 : 16
F-7 : 40
A-5 : 18
L-39: 15
FT-6:12
_______________
BD Proposed fleet.

Combat
Mig 29 : 16 (Current Inventory) + 14 (new) : 30
F-7 : 40 (ground them all)----> Dassault Rafale or J10-B: 30
A-5 : 18 (ground them all)-----> JF-17 or Saab 39 Gripen : 30
L-39: 15(ground them all for training)
FT-6:12(ground them all for training)
________________________________
New Combat fleet should be

Mig 29 : 16 + 14 : 30
Dassault Rafale or J10-B: 30
JF-17(If J-10B not purchased) or Saab 39 Gripen(If Rafale not purchased) : 30

ok, i would just liek to point out that its not really efficient to operate 3 different aircraft for just a fleet of 90 planes. it will just be logistically a nightmare. besides, rafale and gripen are multi-role aircraft. one type will be enough for both air superiority and ground attack.

so i am just making a new suggestion:

BD Proposed fleet.

Combat
Mig 29 : 16 (Current Inventory) + 29 (new) : 45 - all upgraded to SMT standard
F-7 : 40 (ground them all), A-5 : 18 (ground them all)-----> Replace with 45 Gripen, F/A-18E/F, F-16 block 52/60, J-10B or JF-17 block II. Even Rafale and EF are possibilities, but might be too expensive and not cost effective.

L-39: 15(ground them all for training)
FT-6:12(ground them all for training)

That's a good choice man. MiG-29/35s are one of the easily offered best techs flying around. And since you already have facilities for them, there's no pointof buying expensive Typhoons of Rafales.

Gripen though would be pretty good addition to your fighter fleet. If you could take it upto a 100 total, that'd be cool.

I think we will end up buying SU-30 MKK. Russians are giving real good bargain to us now a days.

ok, i just read that J-10B is not on offer. so either change that to J-10A or bangladesh can try negotiate for J-10B.

and if JF-17 is chosen maybe 60 can be purchased, instead of 45, due to lower cost

Thanks for the logical suggestion....it is true that we cannot afford (maintenance wise) variety of planes....Well, i would say 40-45 JF-17 in next few years to come as its a good, affordable plane....better to avoid USA for superiority fighters, because of the 'strings' issue....

We can still maintain the F-7BGs for some more years to come as it will give us a numeric benefit....but later they need to be replaced....

Gripen, however, may not be offered to us right now....though i am not sure....and J-10B is particularly for Pakistan, we might get J-10s....

Cheers!!!

I will throw a party at Burj Khalifa if BAF ever gets SU-30 MKKs :chilli:

But realistically, it might end up being another bunch of Migs....

IMO, SU-27 could still be a better option if not SU-30 MKK....

Cheers!!!

The Bangladesh Air Force wouldn't be on F-18's for no reason now would they?, be realistic :)

I'm going with yours :D

As this thread is for discussing upon BAF....i would like ask for some opinions....

BAF operates a handful attack version of the MI-helicopters....apart from that we have not seen any different attack helos in service among any of the three branches....PLA developed an attack helicopter WZ-10, its mainly for ground operation (anti-tank) but does have secondary air-to-air capability....

China being our largest arms supplier, dont you thing Bangladesh should take a look at these helos....given that we lack attack helos in quantity....

Any opinions....???

Cheers!!!

China and Pakistan Push Chengdu JF-17 Fighter for Export

In the same week that the Chengdu JF-17 Thunder combat aircraft made its international debut at the Farnborough airshow, the product of this co-development between China and Pakistan was offered to Indonesia. The Pakistan Defence Minister signed a defense cooperation agreement with his Indonesian counterpart in Jakarta. The list of countries that the Sino-Pakistan joint venture is targeting for sales is expanding fast: it reportedly also includes Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Congo, Egypt, Iran, Nigeria, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Turkey, Venezuela and Zimbabwe.

At Farnborough, joint-venture partners Catic and PAC described the JF-17 as a multi-role light fighter with an “outstanding performance-to-cost ratio.” The two aircraft on display were ferried to Farnborough but did not fly during the show, and officials were reluctant to allow journalists into the cockpit to view the three multifunction displays plus head-up display, HOTAS (hands on throttle and stick) and other avionics. The aircraft were shown with PL-5II IR-guided air-to-air missiles on wingtip rails and ferry tanks on the centerline and inner wing stations, leaving the outer wing stations unloaded. Mockups of five Chinese stores were displayed next to the aircraft: a C802A anti-ship missile; an SD-10A active radar-guided air-to-air missile; an LS-6 glide bomb; a WMD-7 targeting pod; and a KG300G electronic warfare pod.

Program officials said that a development JF-17 is now flying in China with a Chinese-developed engine, presumably the WS-13 Taishan. All other JF-17s are powered by the Russian-supplied RD-93 turbofan. On the eve of Farnborough, a Russian newspaper reported the opposition of Sukhoi and MiG director-general Mikhail Pogosian to a further sale of RD-93s to China because the JF-17 is competing with the MiG-29 for export sales. At the show, however, Russian officials, including Pogosian, played down this concern.
