Turkish Peace Operations in Syria (Operation Olive Branch) Updates & Discussions

Dont compare the siege of Al-Bab, which is being enforced by only about 1000 rebels to the siege of Mosul in which around 35-40.000 Iraqi soldiers are participating in. Its been 45 days by the way.

You really want to compare your army with the Iraqi army? The latter has been plagued by widespread desertion, corruption, sectarian tensions, political instability, etc. Moreover, Mosul is ten times the size of al-Bab, and the fact that your army hasn't even managed to take Qabasin, let alone al-Bab, is nothing but a failure.

He thought the whole turkish army is fighting to take over al bab :omghaha:

There hasnt been a single proper military achievement since the start of this operation. Only real chalenge was Tell Abyad and Al-Bab. First one failed miserably and the second one isnt going on very well. Al-Bab will be probably taken but it will take time and many casualties. First target at the start was Manbij and looking at it we are not even close to this goal. Worst part is they will showcase the operation like it was some kind of magnificient conquest and public will buy it.

What are you talking about, ther is limited manpower, Turkish army do only assist. Some places airstrikes and artillery, so what are you complaying about.

The operation has been going on for two months, on the vicinity of al-Bab.

Don't compare a city of nearly 2 million people (Mosul) with a city of the size a small Turkish city with no more than a pre-war population of 140.000. Also, Turkey has a well-equipped and NATO-trained army. The Iraqi army on the other hand has been plagued by widespread corruption and desertion, while its soldiers are poorly trained.

The operation has been nothing but a disaster and embarrassment thus far.

bblaaa blaaa blaaaa

So why are you comparing?

The thing is your shia army is wasted of money and ammo. The americans will stop with ther airstrikes and you will cry...:-)

No it doesnt, thats why it send only a couple hundred.

A couple hundred of well-trained Turkish commandos + more than 1000 FSA fighters should be enough to take over a city which isn't probably defended by more than a couple hundred IS-fighters.

Just see how well the Kurds are doing against IS on the Euphrates river.

Largely agreed.
However, if we take the mission's goal into consideration, then the operation is not without any military achievement, for it at least blocked the pkk for now. On the other hand, and more importantly, not sure how the results of this operation will be exploited for our interests on the negotiation table for in the long run.

We should be wary that the main component of this operation is the fsa. Generally speaking, if they slow down or falter, our limited supporting guys will have to adjust. Besides, considering the fsa is not as thoroughly trained as a professional soldier it's not a surprise the operation will take longer or result in more ping-ponging. What irks me the most is how our commander(s) got caught redhanded with some very questionable/noobish decisions, e.g. the tank and cobra that recently got hit in an elevated open place.

They would do shyte without coalition weapons and airforce.
