Russia's Putin says NATO should stay in Afghanistan

Well ! I don't see any reason of including that bold part in your post.. My that question was referring to the future NATO plans and their so much expectations from ANA to look after a challange which they failed to eleminate in whole decade. after all they are going to be your financial supporter in future . how can they expect more from others to achieve something with comparitively limited financial support which even they don't manage to complete with full financial and professional backup?

There is no 'so much expectations' from ANA but seeing their struggle daily that creates hopes in our hearts - this ANA has not more than 2 years of professional experience compared to decades of experience, trainings and equipment of NATO/US/PA but the ANA which we saw in 2008 is much much better in 2012 and we hope if they get international funds and trainings for a decade inshAllah they will emerge as one strong force in this region that's the reason majority of Afghans and people outside Afghanistan still prefer NATO/US being a backup after 2014 until ANA becomes solid and 100% capable.

Since the beginning of the transition ANSF had no mercy on the militants they killed them in hundreds thus insurgents increased attacks on ANSF and left their focus on NATO/US which they had in all these 10 years even Taliban accepted that ANSF is quite more dangerous for them than US/NATO so they will no focus on them.

sorry for shattering hopes of few ;)

Putin is trolling Pakistan and pakistani PDF posters.

Then you haven't read the news properly  ... Putin knows how much do you have to spend to get supplies and fight a useless never ending war in that landlocked mess  ... Hence , the urge to stay put there a little longer :P

Not trolling here....Does anyone ever noticed the high intensity in putin's eyes just like of that of a serial killer.I know he was with KGB may be he was serial killer with KGB for once.Any thoughts on this????

Not to mention it is already becoming infested with Pakistani non-state proxies, ISI moles and PA strategic assets..

lol, Putin knows the truth, because he knows what Soviet Union went through.
He knows that by USA and NATO being in Afghanistan its only hurting NATO in the long run.

US and NATO troops are dying when they can go home and lead a good life and have kids and actually do something useful for their country instead of dying in the battlefield.

Also all the money lost in the wars, the economic crisis, Hurrican Katrina, the Deep Sea oil spill, etc.

Putin knows if NATO stays any longer, the NATO countries will collapse themselves. the Afghanistan war is not sustainable.

High school students want to live life and not die in battle.

@Sher Malang, lol Putin meant what he said.

Nato should finish job in Afghanistan: Putin

ULYANOVSK: Nato forces should stay in Afghanistan until they have finished their job to ensure stability, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday, criticising the planned withdrawal of most combat troops by 2014.

Putin reiterated Kremlin concerns that the pull-out of the US-led alliance, due to start next year, will leave the Central Asian region south of Russia vulnerable to militant violence and drug trafficking.

“It is regrettable that many participants in this operation are thinking about how to pull out of there. They took up this burden and should carry it to the end,” Putin said at a meeting with paratroopers in the Russian city of Ulyanovsk.

“If there is no order in Afghanistan it will not be calm on our southern borders. The current (Afghan) leadership will have difficulties keeping the situation under control. Nato member states are present there, and are performing this function,” he said.

“We need to help them (Nato). We should not be fighting there again. Let them sit there and fight.”

The Soviet Union fought a disastrous war in Afghanistan in the 1980s and Russia ruled out sending troops to aid the US-led invasion after the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks.

But Moscow has supported the Nato operation by allowing transit across its territory.

It expanded that support with an agreement that took effect on Wednesday allowing the alliance to use a transit hub in Ulyanovsk to send non-lethal supplies in and out of Afghanistan using the Russian rail network and air transport.

Supply routes are particularly important for the Nato operation in Afghanistan and the planned pull-out.

Removing a major headache for the alliance, Pakistan re-opened Nato transit lines via its territory in July after months of closure over Nato air strike that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.

Putin said the transit hub agreement, which has drawn criticism from Communists and others saying Russia is allowing an enemy on its territory, in fact benefited Russia – which is otherwise often at loggerheads with the alliance.

“It corresponds to our national interests. On many other issues we have disagreements. We have different approaches, opinions.” Putin said, reiterating his description of Nato as a “throwback to the past, to the times of the Cold War”.

“We will cooperate with them on other fields, fighting piracy on the sea, international terrorism, organised crime. But we will always follow our national interests,” the former KGB spy said.

My assessment: Putin believes its game over for NATO in Afghanistan.

China and Russia will then want to befriend and industrialize the "7 Stans."

We’ve committed to bringing peace and stability to the region. We have made a lot of sacrifices for the sake of Afghanistan’s future. We are approaching a crucial phase in the WOT, and we understand that it’s important to conduct a thorough and measured transition process in Afghanistan. The terrorists are always seeking opportunities to conduct their terrorist activities, and we are aware of the threat they pose during this transition. The ANSF are showing signs of progress, every day growing more capable of providing security for their country. We are not planning to stay a day longer than necessary. We reiterate what President Obama said in regard to our departure from Afghanistan. "We are not interested in staying there any longer than is necessary to ensure that al Qaeda is not operating there and that there is sufficient stability that it doesn't end up being a free-for-all after ISAF has left.”

Just like in Iraq, after you found all those WMDs and liberated a million plus innocents from their lives and now you have brought stability there (no record number of deaths this season, right?).

Or maybe you need more 'Auschwitz-like' hospitals in Afghanistan (Afghanistan's 'Auschwitz-like' hospital - Inside Story Americas - Al Jazeera English) that you create? Or Why not just Freakin Phororize the whole place like Falluja so that everybody born there is a crippled and deformed person?

And then you wonder why everyone hates you...

Seriously, how do you sleep at night, knowing ALL the atrocities you have committed ALL over the WORLD?

Basically you saying that USA and NATO will be done by the start of 2014 and the USA and NATO will leave forever right?

USA and NATO will NEVER COME BACK to CENTRAL ASIA or SOUTH ASIA, right?

USA and NATO won't mind if the next Afghanistani government has policies that are not in "US" or "NATO" interests right?

but rather are Pro-China and Pro-Russia right?

Waiting for your response.

I am glad we can have these talks, so we can know the truth to the matter.

I want nato presence there. If they dont stay there, then soon taliban will gain strength and Indians will be trolled by isi and the talibanis. We need to invest money and rebuild afghan for our good. If indians are attacked India will be forced to take military action to protect indian nationals and assets. rather then creating another war we shoul finish right now.

he is one hell of spy master?
he wants see nato & america destroyed in afghanistan!

Military action against whom ? :azn: Planning to send troops to Afghanistan ? Or just another mobilized and then back off blunder like '02 and '08 ?

It sounds like this really
Putin:Nato and US should stay in afghanistan till they deplete and we will become super power automatically

Russian will regain it's throne and become superpower by simple process of elimination. Smart guy this gray fella!

What goes around comes around. :drag:

War is not an option anymore, India doesnt want war. But if indian nationals, engineers working in afghan rebuiding are attacked india will send security forces. When ever Indians have been underthreat in any country, army has always reached. If it gets serious we will go offensive. Anyways what can these tablibanis do against us???
Do you think we will se our diplomats die by these scumbags, any why Pakistanis support this.
