Poverty in China is a lie: rethinking poverty in China

it brings me to watery eyes every time when i see photos of Chinese kids shouldering heavy burdens
and it makes sad and angry when adults abandon their child or force them to work

there are poor people in China, but we mustn't to let children to suffer poverty!

dude, very few children in CHina are forced to work, child labor in China is rare, even in the US, there are child labor, but also rare

it's logical, he didn't say that 400 million of Chinese under national poverty line, ( let help to search the official standard in China. Is it 2,300 yuan / year ? )
but he argued the national poverty line is too low. actually look funny.

I remember that to you 10,000 yuan should be standard for poor or not poor. @cnleio
I fully agree that idea of yours

to your new post, India has a great move to reduce 32 downto 21% for just 2 years.

----------
In brief, the main topic should be "adopt too low poverty line" is so funny.
But as I know, if anyone below poverty line, he was funded by allowance.
If you raised the poverty line up, for example, to 2$ / person / day in China, according to ADB specialist, China must funding to extra 318 million people.

this is ridiculous, non-old and non-disabled ppl can easily get a job with monthly salary of over 400 dollars per month in CHina

factory worker need skill, not any unskilled farmer could easily work as worker.

this is non-sense
no skills are needed for entry-level workers in factories, factory workers with skills will earn a lot
there are many illegal workers from Vietnam, Philipine in Chinese factories, and these ppl don't even speak Chinese.
labor shortage have made factory employ illegal foreign workers who don't speak Chinese, how can they require skills
besides, there are not only factory jobs, but also loads of jobs like supermarket, restaurants, gatekeepers blabla

10,000 yuan / year.

I mentioned that you don't read previous posts.
1. By China national poverty line, only people has income under 2,300 rmb/year = 1.03 USD / day was considered as in poverty. It seems that there're 82 million under that line in China

2. Do you really think that people has income between 1.03 USD - 2.00 USD / day isn't poor?
The ADB specialist said Yes. And according to him, there're 30% of Chinese people has income under 2.00USD / day. That's a surprise to us.
Because so huge quantity of Chinese still at bad living condition. Let imagine how hard we live with under 730 USD / year.

these are stupid estimation.
as I told you the estimation is based on surveys and sampling
I read a paper on how China estimates the rural income. The survey tasks are distributed to local government and usually local surveyers are not so responsible.
the government ask some local officials to do the survey
basically, these local officials just ask how much the peasants earn per year

peasants may lie so as to get financial support/help from the government
local officials may also lie so that they can make their region as a poor region and get financial support from the central government
the surveyed ppl may be mostly old ppl or disabled ppl who are in the village, but this is a sampling. For example, there are 100 villagers, 70 work in the cities. The survey is done on the remaining 30 ppl. of which 6 are very poor, they investigated 10 of them and found 2 of them are very poor. Then it is 20%. But in reality, it should be 6%

OH ... i don't know, if u have the report or any offcial datas like i posted, pls provide official link in PDF. What surprise to u ? just make me feel surprise too ... do not spread fake news especially u also don't understand it !!!

Where is the ADB specialist ?

Truth lies here in World bank report. We have not down poverty line to 0.24 USD to reduce poverty like china did in past.

Look what world bank has to say:

The World Bank has set the global poverty line at $1.25 a day at present. But, this was calculated on the basis of the 2005 PPP index. By that measure, India had about 400 million poor people in 2010. The revision of the PPP indexsuggests the Indian economy is much bigger and the purchasing power much higher than estimated earlier. It also means that the number of poor people is much lower than estimated earlier. The bank is revising the poverty line to adjust it to the changed index but early calculations by economists suggest the number of poor people in India is set to dwindle, statistically speaking.

India's poor may shrink 75% by new World Bank formula | Business Standard News

So it is 98.9 Million against 400 Million of China.
Can u read English on ADB report ? Below Poverty Line $1.25 (PPP) a day, isn't it ??? :omghaha:

Bro, you're so excited in this thread !

Guys, we cannot trust the data from World Bank or ADB.

Let's just trust our fellow PDF members like esolve and believe that there are absolutely no poverty in China. It seems like every PRC citizen is living the good life so we all must strife to migrate to that great utopian country.

OK now, let's just stop talking about poverty because I keep getting ads about donating money to poor childrens charity in China. It's making me feeling really guilty. :(

Did I say that there are no poor ppl in China?
ppl who earn less than 200 dollars per month in China are poor ppl
I just think the population below poverty line of $2/day is not that many
poor rural ppl get government allowance of at least 30 dollars/day while poor city ppl get at least 60 dollars/day
if you are not old or disabled, it is just too easy to find a job of over 300 dollars per month
how can there be so many ppl below poverty line of $2/day

I want to but I'm feel hesitant. Reading some members in this thread, it seems like there is zero poverty in China.

So I'm afraid those "poor" children are really just scammers and are just collecting money to buy a BMW.
