ISLAMABAD: Adviser to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz on Thursday informed Senate that Pakistan is considering to move a resolution in United Nations, urging it to declare the Indian Ocean a "nuclear free zone".

The adviser expressed concern over India's interceptor missile test of its advanced air defence missile Ashwin and vowed to raise the issue with all major powers 'bilaterally and multilaterally'.

He announced that Pakistan is planning to highlight the dangerous implications of India's plans to nuclearise the Indian Ocean at all relevant international forums and a proposal is under consideration to move a resolution in the next session of UN General Assembly to declare the Indian Ocean a "nuclear free zone".

"Apart from this air defence system, India has also recently conducted tests of nuclear capable, submarine based K4 ballistic missiles. Simultaneously large nuclear powered submarines are being built to carry these nuclear armed missile as a part of its second strike nuclear capability," Aziz told Senate.

During his speech to the upper house, Aziz said that these two developments are part of the massive conventional nuclear and missile development programmes being pursued by India, which are now leading to nuclearization of Indian Ocean and will affect the maritime security of all the 32 littoral states around the ocean.

Terming Indian moves 'against the peaceful and friendly' neighbourhood model proposed by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Aziz revealed that Pakistan had offered discussions on an ABM (Anti-Ballistic Missile) system free zone in South Asia during the composite dialogue with India but so far it has not received a favourable response.

He assured the Senators that Pakistan is not oblivious to its defence needs and will upgrade its defense capabilities 'without entering into an arms race'

"Our efforts for peace and friendship must not be interpreted as a sign of weakness," said Sartaj Aziz.

Reasonable if u r a pakistani because it suits u it would have been reasonable for all if pakistan would talk about nuclear free south asia where u have something to give up

Well what ever the outcome is it's pretty clear we are falling behind and we need to get the latest tech but without $$$ nothing is possible there fore the economy is our priority. We should be developing a nuclear capable submarine or using our old ones and reverse engineering them.
Kashmir is a integral part of Pakistan which we will get back one way or the other whether diplomatic or ______.As far as the anti ballistic missile shield goes we need to make one of our own and precise our missiles with shoot and scoop ability and the fact that the target is so near renders there shield useless if it can do what we think it can.
Keep calm and Pakistan Zindabad!:pakistan::pakistan:

lol this is funny we wont talk nuclear free south asia because we have nukes but we want nuke free indian ocean because we dont have nukes (capability)there
Oceans should be free all nukes. That should be the main priority of the whole world right now.

Never saw Pakistan protesting and complaining when China was putting nuke subs in the SCS region or when the Pacific and Atlantic oceans were getting nuclearized.. What's so special about the Indian ocean?
I think China sea does not touch Pakistan so it will be weird for us.

And why should only the oceans be free of all nukes? Why not the land? The last time I checked, the number of human beings living on land was 7 billion higher than the number of humans living underwater.

Why do they even bother. No one's listening.

Its not the point

We have 8 AIP subs com8ng our way to join the 5 subs we already have

A naval version of babur is under development and it will form the basis of our sea based second strike.

The way the world is, certain quaters will kick up a stink if Pakistan develops these weapons and strike abilities

However highlighting the consequences of india introducing the weapons in our region when ignored allows Pakistan to develop and test our weapons without scrutiny

After the indian nuclear tests neither india nor the world thought we could respond, indians spent a week trolling Pakistan and predicting our demose, then suddenly Pakistan tests its own weapon

If Pakistan had been first we would be sanctioned to the stars

This way we are just responding to the induan threat

Pakistan is developing our sea based second strike and it will be revealed soon enough, our statements prepare the way for our tests and induction
