Pakistan-Russia in talks over S-400 Missile Defence System: Foreign media

S-300PMU2 is not most advance SAM now, it was introduced in 1997, 20 years ago how you expect it to tackle current and future Threats?? All modern air forces can counter S-300PMU2 as tech have evolved, there is a reason Russians have built S-400 & S-350E.
"it was intended to compete directly against the Antey S-300V and Patriot PAC-2/3 systems"
The Patriot PAC-2/3 systems are still the most advanced US air defence systems, so is the Russian S-300PMU2 on the other side..We are not talking about THAAD and other very long range US systems..even the S-400 can not compare..
The problem is that the Russian own orders of S-400 are not complete yet, they have the V4 as a stop gap, and the demand from wannabe importers are too high..at least 10 countries have shown serious interest, but the only known contracts went to China and India(the two closest allies of Russia), while Turkey and Egypt are in advanced negotiations, other countries also started negotiations, so If Pakistan can wait to be the 6th 7th or further client, there is no problem in procuring the system in the next 10 years..

Dear update your self, PAC-3 MSE / MEADS is most advance version not PAC-2/3.

They are PAC-3 anyway.. What do you know of the latest upgrades of S-300 PMU2 sytems or the V4 system..

This is what the S-350 is supposed to replace a short to medium range air defence system:

Another important note, Russia always sells it latest gear after selling its previous.. most countries who have bought the S-400 had previously operated the S-300...except Turkey who is still negotiating, and its statue of a NATO member might make up for that.. Pakistan has no other leverage..it will have to wait till all classical clients of Russia are served first..

Should we look into S-350E & S-300VM to cover near future threats?
It'd be more cost-effective to add HQ-9 SAMs to each HQ-16 battery - i.e. recycle and extend the existing radar and C2 infrastructure. But it'll be interesting to see how much each S-350E for naval ships would cost versus the Aster-30. Would be an interesting option for an anti-air warfare (AAW) frigate.

Pakistan-Russia in talks over S-400 Missile Defence System: Foreign media

DEPO’s Brigadier General Waheed Mumtaz told reporters that Islamabad was ready to buy more military equipment from Russia depending on the Pakistani military’s experience with the helicopters.

The deal came three years after Russia officially lifted an arms embargo against Pakistan, which had been in place since the Soviet-Afghan War.

The rocky US-Pakistan relationship over the past years has seen Washington time and again threatening to cut Islamabad’s military aid over its support for some terror groups, pushing the traditional US ally in the region towards Moscow.

Pakistan’s growing interest in Russian technology became more apparent earlier this year, when reports pointed to Islamabad’s willingness to purchase Russian S-400 missile defense systems, among other items.

“Russia has good tanks, helicopters, electronic equipment, air defense systems that Pakistan may consider. The S-400 is a big ticket number and it will all depend on our budget,” an unnamed Pakistani military official told Russian state media in February.

India’s burgeoning military cooperation with the US has also played a role in Pakistan’s tilt towards Russia.

As Pakistan’s arch-rival, India has made a $2 billion deal with the US to buy 22 unarmed drones. Washington has also agreed to sell C130J Super Hercules and the C-17 Globemasters transport planes as well as the Boeing P-8 Poseidon spy aircraft to New Delhi.

The cooperation is expected to speed up under US President Donald Trump, who has repeatedly accused Pakistan of harboring terrorists.

Long range 9M96E2 missile, used in S-350E, is hypersonic with speeds of around Mach 6 and has a maximum range of 120 kilometres. It incorporates an advanced 50N6A radar station with a multifunctional active electronically scanned array with 360° coverage, and that terminal guidance of long range missiles can use both active and passive radar guidance.

Considering the S-400 is not reverse engineerable Russia should be banking in and cashing on sale of S-400 sell it to 10-15 countries and make some profit to revive it's Space Industry or future technology
