What's new

Over Hyped Azadi March?

Also all of those arguing not enough people showed up.

1. Why did they call in the army if they could handle the "small" crowd.

2. Most people were likely to arrive after IK arrived, especially from Punjab due to the whole state apparatus fighting against them. I suspect even locals of Islamabad and Rawalpindi would have been looking to join after the dust had settled.
Army or I should say Bajwa supporting PDM to perpetuate establishment hold. We are arguing about IK strategy not the motives. A March with grand ambitions can be a last thing, after sustained street protests for weeks. But basically you only give this kind of ultimatum if millions can follow and thousands ready to give life like Iranian revolution. This is not the case in Pakistan and establishment is against you in the background.
That mysterious call about "you shall be trapped?"

I think it was a success for PTI...they exposed PDM’s open gunda-gardi which will cause them to lose a lot of seats in the general election. For common man there was a feeling of being hostage by the government and such feeling of not able to express your right to protest will cost the current government very heavily

The degree to which the PMLN plummeted (with the support of some key entities) in perpetrating violence, censorship and repression of PTI leaders, workers and supporters was not expected, not in this day and age where nothing can be hidden for long due to social media.

They were totally to be expected for those who know the system. Nothing unexpected about it at all.

No one expected the powers that be to betray Pakistan and Pakistanis to the point of supporting violence by the PMLN against the PTI to stop peaceful protests.

There has been no betryal, only the swapping of one facade for the next, as required. Nothing new here, either.

We are in true Military Junta territory now.

LOL. As if we have ever left it for the last fifty years so.

I was never fan of any kind of protest but it was a sad situation when both Punjab and KPK turned into Palestine. It was unbelievable to see thousands of tear gases being fired on general public for exercising their fundamental rights for freedom of expression.

Pakistanis in general are lazy people they go back home to sleep if they see trouble waiting for them.

Such events have happened many times before in Pakistan's history, and this will not be the last, either.

Maybe back in the 1970s but not in recent history. We have had a political crisis before, but this was an utterly different ball game.

It was a war-like situation in the whole country where police beat people for no reason. It would have been a grand jalsa if people were allowed to express their opinion

Again, events such as these may be a shock to young folk, but nothing that has not happened many times before. Pakistan will carry on just fine, I can guarantee you.

This demented thread. Bas itni si... Azadi halwa nahi that you get it in one day.
Bani Bakistanis are in general lazy bumpkins that want mon and salwa thinking Allah chose them.

Which is why even when Pakistan was created the original movement and impetus took off from other parts of India and not the land that is Pakistan.

Nothing happens overnight. It'll take time. The more the grueling the better. The more you crush the grapes the better the wine comes out...

With 80% of the economy undocumented one may not fathom the amount of Haram flowing like water over the Niagara Falls! As for the top "ready to be stripped stark naked beggars in ventilation", it requires more shakes and tsuamis for no humililiation is enough for these Melun-el Melain...

It looks like a fail from the perspective that not as many people will come out next time.

On the other hand, when elections are held, fewer people will vote for PMLN after seeing the coterie of thugs in action.

So not sure frankly.

this time be should enter in Islamabad fully armed with danda sotas like TLP to counter police, let the pathans to clear islambad from these harames this time

Much like the Arab Springs - but with lessons learnt.. Pakistan’s “spring” was like its mango harvest…

After all, when you send retired or potential military men to quash protests in Bahrain well then Karma has its way.

Pakistanis tend to think the establishment can do no wrong and their plans always work out.

Coming to ground reality, the establishment and IK were in negotiations before the Azadi March which would allow PDM to resign. IK thought this is another lollipop and went ahead with the march.

Now let’s stop here.

What did this achieve? Yes he went ahead with the Azadi march etc etc. The march did not allow PDM to resign just yet. In return, the oil price hike had to be done. Maybe that was one tactical victory achieved by PTI.

Second point, I don’t think PDM will resign in the next 6 days. They have been forced to carry the burden of increasing oil prices. Their egos bruised. The onus will be on PTI to be able to bring larger crowds. With the establishment and bureaucrats deeply pro PMLN in Punjab, things look difficult for PTI.

Imran Khan would need to chart out a separate strategy.

Federal and Provincial forces were all defeated, the only thing saving the regime that night was the Army being deployed.

What’s embarrassing are arguments like these that essentially blame the victim.

PTI explicitly warned about this. Carrying out with successful julsas was way better strategy.
