If you are talking about a 60+ story tower - not yet.

Dhaka soil is riverine delta soft soil - piling has to be driven very deep (at least a hundred feet until you hit baserock). As you know this gets quite expensive.

The tallest tower right now is about 40 floors and there are three/four at that level. There are quite a few 35~40 story towers under construction though.

The city needs to grow outward (and in a planned way like Isloo) in my opinion before it can grow upward.....

Take away all those billboards and over-hanging cables, then Dhakas Gulshan area would look really nice. My interest though is potential commercial high rise and mid rise development around Hatirzil lake.....This could potentially be a massive zone.

You're right Bhai. Billboards need to be strictly controlled.....

Hatirjheel could be Dhaka's signature iconic waterfront but it has to be developed in a planned way - with parking behind the lakefront buildings and 'floating concrete' embankments with open-air malls and entertainment areas alongside the lake. In the original plan Vitti (the developers) had plans for revenue generation (shops) but their scope was too small (couple of fuchka/panipoori stands and bookstores) and they didn't see the potential IMHO.

I like the way Bangkok did this, shopping and river taxi all directly on the water.....this is 'Asiatique The Riverfront' in Bangkok.

Yeah, funny you should mention BK just got back from there a few weeks back. I have to fly there each year as we have a office there since 2004 and first went there in 1991. What really makes me wonder is how similar Dhaka is to BK of the late 90s.

Any how i love your threads and how you always keep us updated on developments in BD, thanks for all your work.
