JF-17 at Zuhai Air Show 2010

guys Salam to all and Eid Mubarik

Good to see our bird doing outstanding job

non of you thought about "fog" which shows that the JF can handle all weather. I was thinking if there was no fog the same movements would have made more wowsssss in our eyes.
i think in this weather our pilots have done a good job.

Actually thats a good point...The clouds were pretty low,and for most acrobatics the pilot had to attain height, which he couldn't do because of clouds...There was no point in showing tricks above the clouds where nobody could see him.

few observations:

Its maneuvers are steady, at turns, rolls, climb. efficient FBW at work.

Horizontally its definitely more agile than Falcon especially in close turns!

Its maneuverability is not hampered at low speed which is a case with many modern fighters, infact, it is even better.

i ve never seen such a long vapour strips, neither on F16 nor on F18.
whats that means? why they are so long ?

F 18 alslo have the same Vapours tail............

dude see my last post again, and look at the length of vapours coming out of jf-17 and F-18 hornet. i am talking about the length of vapour trail, why its so long ?

Below is a link of F18 performance at an air show in 2006. Though the video of thunder's performance yesterday is not very clear but a lot of similarities between f18 and thunder's performance are visible.

YouTube - F-18 Super Hornet
Earlier we saw a comparative video of thunder and f16 on turn performance. It will be interesting compare these two videos

Does DSI has got something to do with it ? ? ?
Any aerodynamic specialists here .

This isnt because of DSI as f18 doesnt have DSI but the vapors are there. this is because of LERXs (small round shaped wing ahead of main wings). LERX produce these vapors (vortex) to generate extra lift and to improve angle of attack. You can google "lerx" to read more. Length of vapours depends on speed of aircraft and size of LERX. i am not an aerodynamic specialist though.

Hi, thanks for all the wonderful pictures and videos. I had one comment though. The engine size/circumference looks small for the body of the JF-17. If you look at the end of the plane the engine width is significantly smaller than the fuselage width. Also the metal ring attaching the engine to the fuselage is much wider than the engine. The F-16 & J-10B have fuselage widths and engine widths that are closer in size to each other. Thanks!

Well, that may be for the reason that it was said to have extra room for any future larger engine to be accommodated, without any redesign to the fuselage, which may bring problems or make the program further longer and add costs, so this measure would have been done at the start of the project. So if in reality it has space for a larger engine, its a great advantage for JF-17, as it would take lesser, much lesser time period to test a new engine and get it finalized.

Same case was done with the AK tank, where enough room was left, to accommodate a 1500cc engine in any future upgrade, without any redesigning.
