Suicide hit, Cobra crash, ambush kill brigadier, 20 others
Thursday, February 11, 2010

Several hours later after the chopper hit the ground, a rescue team of the Pakistan Army’s 40 Baloch Regiment was sent to the area in two helicopters to recover the bodies of the two slain officials — a pilot Major Muzaffar and a gunner, Havaldar Asim, and wreckage of the destroyed helicopter.

Gunner/Copilot Captain Asim Shaheed

In Cobra helicopter, the pilot seat on rear, while the front seat, gunner sits. The gunners have all the flying controls provided in front, so he also acts as Copilt of the helicopter. the front seat has controls of TOW missile and 20 mm gun.

may god bless on him :pakistan:

Inna lillah he wa Inna elehe Rajioon

This cobra belongs to same weapons ambush which USA provide us last yr?

What i don't understand is why was Brigadier sent to secure the site.It is not the job of brigadier to secure a crash site.Even if he wanted to go in himself he should have gone with proper ground and aerial escort.Nevertheless the retaliation is underway as we speak.Expect Massive Operation in that area soon.Mangal Bhag needs to be taken care off; one way or another.

Inna Lillah he wa Inna alehe Rajioon
A sad day, may the families bear this with patience and may Allah reward them for their sacrifice.

While not privy to the details as to why the Brigadier himself went, it also highlights a leadership change in the Pakistan Army.
The star level officers are at the front line overseeing all operations, this factor has more than anything else changed the morale of the troops.
While our junior officers always led from the front, this time it is something even the senior officers have done with great honor and dedication, this has turned the army morale around in past 2 years despite taking many casualties.
Gen. Musharraf was never at the front lines but Gen Kayani and his formation commanders are very active and always reviewing, inspecting and meeting the front line formations.

Salute to these brave sons of Pakistan whose sacrifices will not be in vain, inshallah.

May Allah bless the departed souls. Its a great loss to the nation, both in lives and in assets.

There is no "Lihaz" in the retaliation either. Bodies of "insects" are being piled up for being burnt.

The rescue party went in two helis, while they were on the ground, the insurgents hidden around the crash site started to fire on the rescue team. Two of the officers got injured, and the Brigadier went in to get them to safety and he did that. He saved the Major and the Lt, but while coming back to the heli, he was hit by bullets and got martyred.

This shows the commitment the officers and jawans of the PA have.

But regardless of the heroism involved he should not have went in.We can't afford to loose high ranking officers on whom we have spent millions for training.

Do not underestimate the power of their sacrifice, for long we have heard sarcastic remarks about our generals...while many deserved it there were good ones as well who were all labeled in the same tone...
It is a great thing to see our Generals setting the greatest example for their troops to follow. Sadly in this case the general lost his life but his courage remains unquestioned.
It has far more value to the troops than what you can perceive.

For those who have nothing but criticism for the generals, the Brigadier's sacrifice for his comrades should be a shining new chapter in the history of Pakistan Army.
For the soldiers under him, he shall be remembered with pride and honor and will be kept in their minds as an example of courage and sacrifice.

I do believe he will get something. He did showed extreme bravery by just leading the rescue effort.

Problem is we don't come to know all of the stories, but in there, there have been several stories of heroism and courage, shown equally by the jawans and their officers.

I salute him (He is a hero in my books ) but what i am saying is he should have gone in with proper aerial escort and ground escort.
