PA Aviation PUMA Heli Crash - UN Mission Congo

Troops on UN missions only provide security to locals? Or do they actively carry out raids and fight like it’s a war?

Does UN compensate the families of the soldiers or will it be Pakistan which does it?

both UN and Pakistan will compensate the families.

What troops do in a mission depends on the Mandate of the mission, they can be deployed to fight like it’s a proper war or just to provide security and peacekeeping duties. PA has done both and more in UN missions in the past.

I know the feeling you get as a family member of a pilot when a heli crashes in the same place where your loved one was deputed, and when you know that they were supposed to fly that day. May Allah give all the bereaved families patience.

I don't trust Ukrainians unless there is a video of shooting from the ground

A Pakistani PUMA detailed on an ISR Mission has crashed. It was accompanied with an armed Ukrainian MI-8 heli; as per details shared by Ukrainian pilots, PUMA was fired upon from ground by an armed group; bullets struck the helicopter, caught fire in air and crashed. SAR mission has been initiated by UN authorities. Details of crew (all dead) are as under:-
Lieutenant Colonel Asif Ali Awan (Pilot)
Major Saad Nomani (Pilot)
Major Faizan Ali
▪Naib Subedar Sami
▪Havildar Ismail
▪Havildar Jameel (gunner)
▪️ISR Team (foreigners team), Lieutenant Colonel Alekesi Miziura (RUS), Lieutenant Colonel Deian Stanojevic (SRB)

Very sad.
The more Sad thing is our sons of the oil died for a worthless organization called UN which never favoured or listened to us on the Kashmir issue.

Can we confirm if the pilots flying the Ukrainian MI-8 Helicopter (Armed) were also from Ukraine...If so, it could very well be that they shot the Pakistani PUMA down, cause it carried a Russian Officer also.

Interestingly all the South Asian soldiers work together on the same UN mission while they fight with each other when they are back home.
UN is careful to minimise contact between Indian and Pakistani soldiers in UN missions. The last thing you need is India and Pakistan start a war there while rebels look on.

BD troops work quite well with both Indian and Pakistani troops on UN missions.

There are quite a few examples from the past where Pak troops under India Officer or vise versa without any incident. These are professional solders not some rag tag teams, following orders is drilled into them from day one of joining service. Under the blue helmet they become one team regardless of nationality.

The Congolese authorities and the United Nations Mission in Congo paid tribute to the eight peacekeepers killed in a helicopter crash in the Democratic Republic of Congo earlier this week. The crash killed six Pakistanis, a Russian and a Serb. The helicopter was on a mission carried out in the North Kivu province, in the east of the country, an area where clashes have taken place in recent days between rebels of the M23 movement and the congolese security forces.

The UN has launched an investigation into the incident as both sides blame each other.

"As we remember our peacekeepers, we cannot ignore the many soldiers and civilians, including women and children, who have fallen under fire which continue, sadly, to resound in eastern Congo", declared at the ceremony taking place in Goma, Bintou Keita, Representative of the UN Secretary General in the DRC.

"The determination and will of the Armed Forces of the Democratic Republic of the Congo and MONUSCO troops in the face of the various losses of human life will be the motivation for the next missions.", said Gilbert Kabanda, the Congolese minister of Defence.

On Friday, the Rebel group declared a unilateral ceasefire, claiming they were ready to talk with Kinshasa and wished for a "peaceful settlement" of the conflict."We remain faithful to our political line, which is to reach a peaceful settlement of the crisis with the government. The Congolese revolutionary army reserves the right to retaliate vigorously in the event of a new war initiative by the national army or its auxiliaries.", announced Willie Ngoma, M23 spokesperson.

The group was defeated by the national army in 2013 But took up arms again last November asking for the demobilisation and integration of its combatants, as promised they say, by the governement.

The congolese authorities haven't yet reacted to the peace settlement suggestion.
