Deep Sea Port In Making - Way to go...

I am ok with UAE and china but nothing from India. It big no when comes india's involvement in bangladesh. Why inviting Alligator by cuting our canal. It's better in bangla though...:D

Chittagong port is paying 30% of the project cost. The rest will come through PPP. I am 100% sure none of Indian company will qualify for this bid.

Bangla-khal kete kumir deke ana........btw why are you so allergic to india, buddy?? Its plain buisness, nothing else.......have some logic behind your thoughts....thnx

Well in this particular case, Indians will be a customer for this port. So Indian should not be given to have a stake on this project as it will be a conflict of interest for Bangladesh. yes its bout business.

Here in lies the real rub, AL is constructing this port to help mitigate India's problem of transporting economic goods & development materials vis-a-vis its isolated NE region.

Instead of earning a few measly millions from a port whose main purpose is to serve Indian interest & Indian funded razakars of the AL, which will be ZERO anyway after the corrupt politicians get their pieces of the pie, how about India allow unfettered access to BD businesses to its NE region? Its a win-win for all. BD can reduce the huge trade gap with India by selling finished products to the NE region, this will also allow that region & its population access to all facilities in BD. Geographically the NE also happens to be much closer to us than any other parts of India.

The second benefit of closely integration the NE region with BD economically is that it can also grow much faster with the very high growth rate of BD, about 7%. And its infrastructure can also be built up much faster and at a cheaper price, as cost of materials in BD is cheaper than India. Also time & cost of transporting such materials will be tremendously lower because of BD's close geographical proximity to the NE region.

We can also have another very win-win business deal. India can allow BD unrestricted use of their rail and road links, river, sea and land ports to connect and do business with Bhutan, China, Nepal and Pakistan. I mean this will certainly increase the amount of integration & also trade between its neighbors, while the Indian govt. earns a yearly fee for letting us use its facilities.

Since all Indians here are harping on trade & win-win business deals for all, I mean how can any of you even object when India and its people will benefit so much, right?

To AL supporters, if what you keep repeating is true, that the port is for BD use, why not have the current AL leadership in the current govt. publicly declare, then pass a law, to prohibit India from using this & all other land/sea/river/air ports in the country from being used for transporting Indian goods from one part of that country to another, so as to BD does not become an Indian corridor? After which they're free to proceed in constructing the port and no one in the country will even question them on taking bribes from India & selling the country's sovereignty/interests out or accuse them of being Pak/Indian-razakars.

Such an act will make AL seem a lot more pro-Bangladesh and less pro-Indian, even the self proclaimed nationalists, BNP or other parties would look like 2 bit India pleasing parties after this act. It will also dispel fears or suspicions from people who are nationalists/pro-BD's about AL completely selling the country out to India, like they once did during 72-75, until it was violently stopped! It would make people who are nationalists & pro-BD's less suspicious of AL or its intentions, and they might even lend their support to the current govt. which will in turn make it easier for AL to implement its policies, as claimed by AL, of improving the country in the next 5 years.

you have substance in your comments regarding indian attitude. but to talk about pure business we need to cash in every opportunity we get. I belive by having a deep sea port and to serve NE through this port will create enormous opportunity for BD business. Once it is open then india wont be able to keep its door closed for NE. NE will automatically come to us.

If cashing in means selling out most Bangladeshis would not agree. Bangladesh is not that desperate but the Indians are.

It is too early to comment bfore we see the exact phrases of any accord with India. it will not be a corridore rather transhipment. No Indian vehicle or personal will be able to enter Bangladesh.

Yes, you are right in your assessment on the merits of providing service to the NE if and when a deep sea-port is built in BD. Any two neighbouring countries have many problems, but each of the problems should be solved separately.

Considering the immense economic benefits, we just cannot deny access to our proposed deep port by India. A seaport will cost us more than $10 billion to build. Therefore, the port must look for a bigger and bigger volume of businesses so that it does not become a money spending losing concern.

A deep seaport near Cox's Bazaar will allow it to provide service not only to Chittagong and Mongla, but also to Kolkata, other eastern ports of India, NE as well as Yunan Province of China. It will also serve Nepal and Bhutan. Only this kind of expanded business will keep the port afloat. A port closed to all will be bad business. Why the country should build such a port if it has no business to do? It will be a waste of money.

Presently, Singapore is the only nearest deep seaport. From here the goods for the nearby countries are loaded/unloaded to the smaller ships. The new BD seaport will have the same function as the Singapore port. Big ships with goods destined for the Indian east coast ports, NE, China, Nepal and Bhutan will anchor there, and the smaller ships will do the rest of the works. Of course, NE and China will use land route.

India has already taken steps to open the doors in the NE. BD traders are expecting to raise their exports there to $1 billion by 2011. Our garments, cement, plastic goods, bricks and many other items will find good market in the NE.

It is time that BD regards the NE as its economic co-prosperity zone. Assam and Tripura belong to India, but, we cannot just abandon these States, because, many, excluding the Mongolians, of their people, Hindu or Muslim, are basically from Bangladesh. They are our people, but living in a separate country. Therefore, access to our deep seaport by NE should be seen also in that light.

Moreover, they will not take away anything from us free. It is trade and business, whereby both the parties are winners. NE needs our cooperation to develop.

Just to summarize, another full load of crap.

For example:

Just to summarize, another full load of crap.

For example:
I deserve an explanation from you to support your claim that all my thinkings are just craps. Could you do me a favour by sending an explanation! And, please do not send just one liners. If you write the post very objectively, then it would help me understand my mistakes. Only India bashing will not do the trick. We already know in which period BD has imported INDIA-MADE Bajaj CNG at 1 lakh Taka and forced the users to buy them at five lakh Taka.

Now, when one sees merits in selling our services to NE, someone comes up with the word 'Crap.' It seems some so-called BD-lovers want only to buy Indian goods and do not want to sell BD goods and services in exchange. Very strange, these people are fond of calling themselves haters of India, how fantastic!

Instead, they must claim themselves lovers of India, and haters of BD and its dignity. BD earns more dignity when it produces world class goods that have demand also in that bully country called India. Remember, their NE development partially depends upon us. We are Muslims, we should have broad minds unlike the Hindus. Why should it give us pain if it is the wish of Allah that the NE also develops alongwith us?
