China to assist Pakistan in infrastructure development projects

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have embarked upon an extensive programme for infrastructure development in Pakistan.
Sources in the Ministry of Planning and Development told Radio Pakistan that a number of projects are at different stages of planning and execution.

Funding for them would be made by China Development Bank, Export Import Bank of China and other financial institutions.

These projects include Karakorum Highway Phase-II from Raikot to Islamabad. This four hundred eighty-seven kilometers portion will be built at a cost of three hundred seventy-nine billion rupees.

Multan-Sukkur section of Karachi-Lahore Motorway would be constructed at a cost of two hundred forty-six billion rupees. The project is likely to be initiated this year.

There is also a plan for Rehabilitation and up gradation of one thousand seven hundred thirty-six kilometres long Karachi- Lahore-Peshawar railway track. It will cost 3.65 billion dollars. All these projects will be completed by the end of 2017.

A dry port would be constructed at Havelian at a cost of forty million dollars.
