Yes N-E is poor, but just when one compares it to other states of India, compared to Bangladesh it's GDP per capita is still more.

NE has population of roughly 4.5 crores (1/4th of Bangladesh's) & it's density is around 300/sq. kms unlike BD where one man is falling on another b'coz of lack of space (1000+/sq. km).

It's GDP (nominal) comes out to be $36 billions, i.e. PCI of $800, while that of BD is $700.

This when most of the NE is mountainous region & has no access to sea + without any transit from BD, it is just connected by a "chicken's neck" of 14 miles width at it's minimum.

The High Commissioner only said what his audience wanted to hear.

BTW, if NE is really that poor than why pole-vault into Assam when BD is the richest country in the world???

Not only Indian NE but complete India itself is poor and even 1.2 billion market is small for banladeshi product. Even opening Indian market to Bangladeshi products, then could manage to sell only $ 0.6billion in Indian market. Where as poor Indian were able to sell around $3.5 billion worth of product.

I hope Rich bangladesh governement to reduce 26% duties on poor indian's oranges for Bangladeshi market.

That is an utter and shameless lie because whole idea of using Bangladesh as corridor by cultivating stooges in Bangladesh politics was to transport manufactured goods from western part of india to NE. ........eh well we unfortunately for you we produce every single type of consumer goods (processed foods, furniture, educational accessories, literally everything U need in U daily life) that India can make. Yes its true that Indian products are allowed as we utterly fail in imposing deceptive non-tariff and other barriers on imports like India. Our industry survived without much gov support unlike your pathetic country. Have U ever heard about parn, BD foods, bashundhara, Square. These conglomerates have their presence internationally today. Pran for eg. exports food stuffs like juice, jam, carbonated drinks, dairy products in competitive markets like US and EU. And they are solely involved in agro-processing and this is just one example.

Saying that bangladeshi market are filled with nothing Indian f!lth shows the pathetic shameless arrogant character an typical Indian has. But then again this is pretty much expected from an Indian.
