What's new

Pakistan is exploring other markets for new weapons

Current design is German 1,500hp. Local design will be 1,800hp. Which I think will also decrease the per unit cost.
It is smart to use 1800HP? I mean, it is going to have less lifespan than German 1500HP engine?

It would be nice if that 1800HP engine was in Oplot-M if Pakistani decide to buy it, then Oplot M would go 105km/h on road and 52.5 off-road. Imagine reactions of Indians... lol

Please make 2400HP engine, I want see Oplot M go 140km/h on road and 70 off road and send it to Ukraine... I want see Russians panic!

Indian Army would become patriotic & order 2000 Arjun with Indigenous Engine :D

Update on Altay MBT Program:

Austrian company AVL List GmbH is declared to be chosen for technical assistance and ToT for national engine development tender for Altay which is run by TÜMOSAN. This move isn't described only for increased national input but also opening all the doors for export to friendly countries since the current engines are German made.

Well but for the meanwhile you can also take help from Ukraine or choose their 1500 HP engine although it has some issues but they can be resolved.

Where is that 1500HP engine of yours and why your tank costs almost twice as much as Oplot M?

Ukranians have a 2000HP engine, though it has like 1/4 or 1/3 of lifespan of 1200HP engine if I remember correctly.

Ukranians should develop a 2400HP engine and that it lasts 480 hours in case of war, just replace the 1200HP engine and make the Oplot M go 70km/h off road and running circles around T90M's and what ever Indians have.

Would be Developed (BEML, Ashok Leyland, Kirloskar or Greaves Cotton) if order would be enough to justify cost.
If Army orders tiny quantity then rule of the economics say it would cost more.

You can make 5000 hp engine but you need a mobile gas station to refuel then in every 15 minutes :D

The Adviser said the country is also exploring other markets to meet its defence needs including purchase of helicopters from Russia. He said Pakistan is alive to the issue of arms buildup by India.
Show me the money! :P

Seriously, whatever happened to Pakistan acquiring Chinese arms (as these are far cheaper)? Or is it due to quality issues? Why is Pakistan scouting for arms from 'other' markets?

You can make a 5000hp engine, but it would't last even 5 minutes, let alone 15.

We make 11,000 hp engine but for heavy earthmovers & locomotives, can't fit in Tanks.
I am just stating that heavy engine means more fuel consumption means logistic nightmare.
We had plan to fit GT engine in Arjun but only thing hold it is heavy fuel consumption by GTs.

Even you are able to fit 2500 hp engine in Tank then you need a good gearbox to use its power efficiently, which you could not.

In the past Pak worked with Turkey on the MBRL system,Armour technology etc... KFX project is another venture both countries can mutually benefit eachother..

Apart from that we can help Turkey in development of Stand off weapons, missiles etc..

Indonesia itself is a buyer of Pak small arms,missiles..

No, it's not Indonesia but Malaysia who bought large number of small arms and missiles from Pakistan

Indonesia just bought directly from Russia or China if it's needed

Larger engine means heavier & bigger engine and better cooling system requiring larger and heavier tank.

Why would one need to install 2400 HP engine in a tank? Even the 65 ton tanks such as US Abram M1 series and Leopard 2 perform admirably with 1500 HP engines. UK Challenger 2 tank makes do with a 1200 HP engine.

Off course if one aims to win a ‘Grand Prix' more powerful engine would help.

Why should it be not smart?

It's a decision given by expert analysts and engineers. Don't underestimate 1500HP on a 65 ton tank, example from most advanced tanks:

Leopard 2A6: 1,479 HP, 63 tonnes

Abrams M1A2: 1,500 HP, 62 tonnes

Merkava IV: 1,500 HP, 65 tonnes

Altay: 1,500 HP, 65 tonnes.

Current engine is German MTU made. Indigenous development will come with 1,800HP.
More HP, better mobility.. ain't that right? @500

Ukrainians do have good experience on tanks coming from Soviet era, but why go after them when you have a better option for technical assistance and ToT, a.k.a Europe in which at this case Austrians were chosen.

Yes, especially in mountains. My Magah 7 with 900 hp was moving like a turtle compare to Mk4.

Cooperation means when both/all parties work together to build a better product. That's why the question was, what additional input in technology/technical knowhow can Pakistan bring ?
Do some research before post a comments. Please google Pakistan help in Turkey UCAV program (Just one example and we have so many more)

Turkey is a signatory of MTCR therefore they have access to much advance UCAV technologies available in the world. Plus Pakistan builds parts for Turkey UCAV, is it simple cheap outsourcing or some high end technological stuff nothing mentioned anywhere.
Would be glad if you can enlighten us.

And what superior technologies Pakistan posses that Turkey doesn't have in Land vehicles and SAMs?:-)

It is a secret right ?:D

It is a technology ... they are researching on ; and want to know

why vegetarian cats love Pakistani sausage !

now, go, and stay away from a thread which has nothing to do with your vegetarian being.
