What's new

Pakistan may study other fighter options as US asks Pakistan to make full payment for F-16 purchase

Actually, Pakistan will only be allowed to buy certain types of F-16s, with certain types of avionics, and only with certain types of weapons. Given the growing Indo-US cooperation, it's going to get more difficult for Pakistan to acquire US hardware even if they are paying for it.

spot On!!

See.... for me its simple. You guys curse America as much as you can.... but then, why does your beloved PAF run to USA to buy F-16s on aid money? (sugar coated as "subsidy for war on terror").

Then, if A doesn't work out, your government has Plan B, which is, surprise surprise, get second hand F-16s (which incidentally still requires US nod) and then say USA is bad.....

You having reading comprehensions? The offer came directly from the Yanks. They are changing the deal on offer. Of course, we thank them for it.

But now the US is in ELECTION season

This decision has been taken by REPUBLICAN leaders in US Congress
Bob Corker is the Chairman of the Senate Foreign relations committee

He is a republican

If Obama overrules them then His party will suffer

Democrats will look weak and Hillary will LOOSE

So this decision will stand and the NEXT President will take a Final call

At the same time, no US President would like to see the production lines grinding to halt and Americans getting unemployed.

That is also true but in this election season you cannot give away 430 Million dollars
of Tax payers money WITHOUT a good cause
especially when there are SEVERAL problems in US economy

The US Senators have already said that Pakistan is NOT Helping USA

SO why should USA subsidize F 16 s for PAF

This 430 Million subsidy was public money ; Taxpayer money

US President needs a Good reason to spend it

well this is not a blessing in disguise, as they were coming "kinda" free. it was win-win for pak-USA both.

so who is at lost here?
obviously majorly I will say US itself, as this will dent PAK_USA relations . it will not cause significant change in PAF ability as it was mere 10% of f-16s. per news of sirtaz aziz PAF will not be going for F-16s

so with lack of support from USA PAF might think about another platform. this also means that PAF will no longer be obliged to do "more" on "all" fronts, as USA will have nothing to pressurize PAF for next 2 years while deliveries were going on.

i kinda think this decision will be reversed after the elections

PAF doesnt, it kinda free thats why..we needs jets against terroists and whats the harm in getting them free

there is another angle to it was well. The military guys must understand that the balance of IR is shifting in Asia right no since indians have agreed to accommodate Americans to use them as a vessel state against China militarily.

This now changes everything. And dont even think any good from America since now this is the first of many things to come not just for Pakistan but for entire Asia as well.

This however gives us more avenues too and the Indian decision to grant them their land against China should be used to persuade the Chinese n specially Russians to seriously think to sell us more advanced stuff and build a strategic partnership as well. @Windjammer
I'm sure all are following these developments very closely, the irony is while we are moving away from American influence, India OTOH is sinking deeper into US lap.

Why does Pakistan spend 80 million on f16 when it can get better and more versatile fighters for 70 percent of the price with much better capabilities...even if induction costs are high for raising a new platform(due to which plans for j10b were dropped) we have inducted nearly 2 to 3 dozens new f16s....we could have saved a lot of cash....

Like America,s financial aid China was also ready to give Pakistan some discount on jet fighters....

So bombs from F-16s kill more terrorists than the JF-17s?

More importantly, 70 F-16s can't finish off terrorists in Waziristan/ FATA but these new F-16s will??

Who are you kidding man.....o_O:partay:

Again level of member shows how people failed to understand the statement .

1. Buying F16 from US involves 2 things (F16 jet itself and Funding approval) In this case PAF has F16 approval but funding problem
2. Buying from out side (F16 jets approval + Money) but 1/3 from new . In this case approval for F16 is there but we have to pay less money 1/3 i.e the orignal amount we were willing to pay US>

This is a good move and litmus test for US/Pak relationship where these are heading in coming days .US interest is to keep lines open for F16 where as Pak needs F16 . Don't be surprised in the end India buying F16 from US instead of PAkistan .

Compared to JF-17, the J-10 has:

- Greater payload
- Greater speed
- Higher service ceiling
- Higher thrust to weight ratio
- Higher G-limit
- More advanced weaponery
- More advanced avionics package
- AESA Radar.
then the argument that jf 17 almost like j10 is invalid

You have reading comprehensions? I DID say now that plan A is not working, your minister said Pakistan has other avenues to get F-16s. Secondly, it was a negotiation between Pakistan and USA that these 8 -F-16s will be delivered in return US will get Pakistan support in Afghanistan , war on terror etc..... So no, it was a "mutually" decided agreement....

Yes...The Eye gets Sharper.

These would be those that Pakistan is already operating. The approvals are required till USAF does not get the F-35's once they get them them these permissions would only remain to those that are in USA.

Maybe I am just trying to read between the lines but I am sure that Sartaj Aziz is well aware of the requirement to get permission from US for sale of US military equipment to 3rd parties and that any such request will have to be routed through the US Congress.

Based on the above, I am assuming that Sartaj Aziz is actually threatening the US of finding some other supplier and thus dumping US military equipment altogether. The repercussions for such a move, for both countries, is enormous. In my opinion, dumping the US as a military supplier would be exponentially beneficial for Pakistan.
In other words he is trying to say Pakistan might go to Russia...

I'm curious about something. Is this man threatening- if we the U.S taxpayers don't give Pakistan aid and pay over 50%(in some articles I read close to 65%),for this aircraft, Pakistan will go make more JF17s? "Don't give me free aid I will buy/manufacture another aircraft out my pocket".
Reality is a B****

By buying from outside u mean 2nd hand jets which require upgrades hence higher costs???

No some Block 40`s are available at a cheaper rate and not needed upgradation as F16 will mainly will be used for fighter conversion + upgrade can be done later with some other vendors as well
