MF Husain would no longer be an Indian-Sad Day for Secular India

Personally, I wouldn't like it at all. But there are different practices, customs and beliefs in different religions. The ancient greeks, for instance, wouldn't have any issue with this.

I haven't made any of these pictures. My question was simply as to why different standards apply to people of different faiths. If nude statues made by a Hindu are revered then why are MF Husain's paintings not seen in the same light?

By the way, I am not saying that there is anything wrong in nude sculpture. The question I have is mainly around the fact that on the one hand we are talking about a secular country and o:taz:n the other we are advocating different standards of treatment for people based on their religion for doing the same thing.
my friend , we are a secular land. Secular means one can practice any religion one wantts and will not face discrimination bec of it. Mf is free to practises any religion he chooses.

I am 100% sure of ur intention now, I replied to you but you but you ignored. You are here only to take a digg. I also ask one more question, forget about Muslim gods, why did he not even draw a Muslim common man nude.

Just because u r a good painter does not mean u r good person too. I am convinced he is 3rd class at heart.

Shame on MF Husain for drawing these ****** and tasteless pictures. Shame on him for drawing nudes at all, much less ones which would be considered insulting to another religion. Shame also on him for drawing provocative pictures of political leaders who are held dear by many. Shame Shame Shame on MF Husain!

I have no problem saying all the above. My singular issue is with two standards being applied. Attack the muslim and let the hindu go. That is it.

Well dears, I can present you with photos of contemporary sculptures of every goddess including Sita and Saraswati in compromised postures, scanty cloths and nude bosom; I believe that they were all made and casted by Hindu artists. For a time being, I myself have been deep into painting and sculpting and studied sub-continent art in great details. However, I'll refrain myself from posting those pictures as it would serve no good purpose.

Oh yes! You will find several idiot Hindu artists who will do anything to make their art different from other depictions. And trust me, those artists also get enough criticism for their deeds.

why some stupids are recommending this guy to make a sculpture of allah, in hinduism it is allright to make sculptures of gods, but in islam it is strictly prohibited to draw any form which represents god??, is it very hard to understand

and as indians were saying that the islamic world is impatient that they protested over danish cartoons, and were loling, but what happened to their tolerance now??, do indians follow their secularism where it suits them, but when it does not, they abandon their own principles. please do what you say, please. india has religious freedom??, it seems indian secularism and its efforts to draw a parallell between the west is just a hoax, so much for freedom and democracy.

It is not about Hindu vs Muslim in the way you are seeing it, its neither about secularism. Indian government did give him police security!!! What was that? not secular?

A man should be in his senses and know what is accepted in society and what is not!!!!

The fact of Hindus getting away because they are Hindus is flawed!!!
Didn't you yourself read about a swamy with women and what he had to face?

The very fact that this discussion irked you is ample proof of what a demented painter he is, and what such things will do in cultures like yours and mine!!

Freedom, hell yea!! since he knew he had it he painted!!! What has democracy got to do with this? The govt of India did give him police protection!!!! Is that not secularism?

A guy can hurts sentiments of others? he happens to be Muslim (not a devout one, as described by many) then it is fake secularism, people protest, govt gives protection: freedom, democracy, secularism come under the gun :disagree:

Do you really think I've been "twisting" things to my benefit here? I have not responded to personal attacks. I have been apologetic on things that I really have no business being apologetic about. I have even gone and deleted pictures that were not of my making and are still being hosted on an Indian website run by a hindu living an enjoyable life in India, as far as I know.

Any legitimate question or criticism must be seen as those evil Pakistanis "twisting" things to "their benefit"? Please go back and read what I have written. Please tell me what I have twisted or where I have been insulting to any member here or the hindu religion. Have I asked anything other than a single question: why is there disparate treatment for the same offense when the person who is attacked is a muslim, and the person who goes scott free, a hindu.

That is it. If you think this is a "twisting" of facts, then once again, I apologize. Please advise me as to how I should have raised what I consider to be a perfectly legitimate issue/question.

You are being disingenuous and you know it.

I have addressed your question in my previous post, ideally there shouldn't have been any sort of discrimination, but one has to exercise their rights responsibly given the context and our history.

This isn't about our secular credentials, the government did exactly what it should have, they offered Hussain protection but law enforcement in India is a whole different ballgame and I don't blame him for being wary. The crazies, generally speaking, failed to politicize the issue, most people couldn't have cared less and life in general carried on.

Where do you see disparate treatment? its a sad fact that Hussain was forced to live in exile, but the government failed to protect Taslima too didn't it? India is still a conservative country, especially when it comes to religion, our past has been marred by brutal religious violence, the government should be commended for keeping its wit about it despite the sensitivity of the issue.

When it comes to our secular ideals, India has covered a lot of ground, I don't deny that there's a lot more to cover, but your persistent attempts to try and 'expose' our 'secular facade' are a little pathetic. We don't deny that religious extremism exists in India, but you can't deny that India is a nation that is trying in a region where intolerance is all too common.

Try this,
DNA India - Stop hate speeches, apex court tells Raj Thackeray

You are being disingenuous and you know it.

I understand that you don't like what I have to say. But you should lay off the personal accusations. That is a two way street.

I have already clarified my position repeatedly and if that is not enough for you, then nothing will be. Too bad.

Traditionally, there are some explicit depictions of Shiva and Parvati. But that is not mainstream, and the deeper metaphysical meaning in fact has nothing to do with sexuality.

Explicit depictions of Sita and Saraswati are definitely not traditional.

As regards Hussain - his intentions were not bonafide. He says that when he wants to insult somebody, he paints them nude. But secular India should allow him to draw whatever he wants. And people should be free to criticize him. Similar rights should be extended to Taslima Nasreen, Rushdie etc.

He has stated that when he wants to insult somebody, he paints them nude.
If his such mentioning is on record, than indeed he did nothing bonafide. You see, neither I nor TechLoare is endorsing his paintings.

I fail to understand this objection of Hindus against this guy, since Hindus have been depicting both their male and female deities nude for centuries even to the point of having depicting their sex.

Are they acceptable because those drawings glorify their genitals and this guy did not do that? The same thing would be considered offensive for Muslims, however our tradition is involved with keeping any depiction of God and the Prophets out.

It seems that some people do not bother to read any of the comments in a thread before posting their opinion.

No wonder some people "fail to understand" anything.
