What's new

Bangladesh is getting 24 YAK-130, 6 Mi-17 Helicopter and 480 ATGM

u can train in 2 seater version..

But the Yak 130 was designed to replicate 4th and 5th generation aircrafts in different roles. It's a really cool thing.

Combat training suite on the Yak-130 includes simulated and real firing systems with air-to-air and air-to-surface missiles, bomb dropping, gun firing and on-board self-protection systems. The instructor can set and control "target behavior" from his seat in the aircraft.

The yaks are among the best of their class, and when your thinking of the long term building of an effective force, its good to start with the basics trainers, then in the next 4-5 years we'll need the next step buying decent combat jets etc. Though i think $23m is rather pricey for these, we'll need to negotiate the prices down.

there is no telling how much of that money going into Awami League pocket as commission and why Awami League went for big ticket purchase.

Looks like Bangladesh is on a weapons buying spree.. What are the security threats faced by Bangladesh?

Just standard updating of old equipment, now that our economy is starting to expand and the gov can afford it no bigee.

Well its to be expected, they got to build a nest egg as their term is comming to an end, did the same thing with the migs the last time, the scale just gets bigger with time.

Trainers can be weaponised for limited combat capability.

These trainers are no match for SU 30. Awami League is purchasing these to tie up Bangladesh defense spending for next few years along with massive looting from the deal. All the while real priority of Bangladesh defense forces side stepped. This purchases from Russia is joint implementation of Indo-Awami League defense policy - keep Bangladesh weaker than it otherwise would be. If it were to enhance Bangladesh defense capabilities, system like S-300, BM-30, Mi-28 like would have been purchased.

Are you suggesting that the Bangladesh military is focused on Indian military?

You may have some valid points, but i still think the yaks are a good first buy. Before we purchase expensive birds like the SU-30 we need to train a core of pilots and other technicians. I think you'll see those combat fighters soon, an i think it would be a good idea to look at the chinese equiv of the S-300 the h-9 that Turkey recently selected.
