BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday alleged that the government is buying 10 Airbus aircraft from France with an aim to get commission.
“It’s very nice thing that the President of France has arrived here…he is our big guest. You (govt) welcomed that guest very well with dance and song,” he said.
Speaking at a programme in front of BNP’s Nayapaltan central office, Fakhrul said the people of the country who are struggling to manage food in the dire situation of the country presumed that something good was happening during the France President’s tour.
“What has happened? It’s said that 10 Airbus aircraft will be procured. Their (govt’s) real goal is to get kickbacks on this Airbus. Do you understand the kickbacks? It means commission,” he said.
The BNP leader said there is no scope to get commission by procuring Boeing. “That is why 10 Airbus planes are being purchased.”
Fakhrul, also a former state minister for civil aviation, said the government is going to procure the Airbus aircraft though it cannot ensure food for people of the country, treatment for them and build hospitals and provide health services. “They (govt) also can’t ensure the people’s right to franchise.”
He also questioned the justification of buying 10 Airbus planes for Biman Bangladesh Airlines when the state-run organisation has collapsed. “Biman also can’t provide any service properly. “They’re purchasing the Airbus aircraft for creating scopes for stealing ( public money).
“They (govt) have probably cut the commission immediately."
Later, the BNP Secretary General inaugurated the three-day leaflet distribution programme taken by Dhaka South city unit BNP for creating public awareness to control the dengue outbreak.
French President Emmanuel Macron arrived here on Sunday evening on a short tour at the invitation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.
This was the first visit by any French president to Bangladesh in over last three decades.
President Macron held talks with PM Hasina at the Prime Minister's Office on Monday. He joined a banquet hosted by Hasina in his honour on Sunday.
The two leaders witnessed the signing of a couple of bilateral instruments (agreements/MoUs) to enhance cooperation in different fields including infrastructure and satellite.

The point of this discussion is, Iran's resources and geographic location along with their military clout gives them leverage on the West.
Bangladesh has none of it, hence it is completely foolish to compare Bangladesh with Iran and assume that Bangladesh can survive without the West just like Iran has been doing for the last few decades.

US literally emerged on world map in a war and fought to colonize more lands in its surroundings while up against the likes of British Empire, Mexican Empire, and Spanish Empire. US defeated these Empires in war and became a world power.
US demonstrated its industrial and kinetic prowess in the two World Wars and created the most destructive weapons in human history.
US created a Military Industrial Complex (MIC) and came up with the Theory of Limited War to fight limited-scale war(s) in other countries. This practice feeds MIC and has continued since the 1950s. But this is not to be taken as a weakness. If (or when) push comes to shove, US will show what it can do in a war.
Vietnam
Vietnamese terrain made it impractical for US to conduct armored thrusts and apply Blitzkrieg in this region. But US bombed and destroyed much of the country - millions of Vietnamese died in the war. US troops defeated Vietcong in Tet Offensive in 1968 and A Shau Valley in 1969 (Operation Apache Snow) but President Johnson showed weakness called for withdrawal of American troops from A Shau Valley.
President Nixon was also an idiot for not taking advantage of Operation Linebacker II - USAF used precision munitions to defeat and degrade Vietcong - a first in human history.
Vietcong was willing to negotiate to find a solution for the war but President Nixon chose to withdraw American troops instead. It took Vietcong 3 years to recover from the blows received in Operation Linebacker II and capture South Vietnam.
American leadership bungled American war effort in Vietnam but Vietnam War was still a horrific experience for Vietnam and its neighbors such as Cambodia and Laos. No country would want to go through this experience.
Afghanistan
US-led forces toppled Afghan Taliban setup in 2001, created an alternative Afghan setup in 2002, and focused on dismantling Al-Qaeda Network. This continued till Afghan Taliban came to their senses and accepted American condition to not allow Al-Qaeda Network to use Afghanistan as a base of operations and plot attacks on American assets. This agreement was reached with support of Pakistan and Qatar in Doha Accords in 2020. President Biden decided to conclude American mission in Afghanistan on this note and scrapped the Intra Afghan Dialogue - entirely his call.
Somalia
US did not fight a war with Somalia. UN was involved in Somalia in limited capacity for humanitarian causes. The Black Hawk incident was in connection to an operation to capture a Somalian warlord but it was poorly planned and executed under UN command.
Somalia is nothing but hot gas that is allowed to be released.
Iran
US did not fight a war with Iran. But USN defeated Iranian Navy in a significant clash in 1988 (Operation Praying Mantis).
Iraq
You kidding? US-led forces destroyed Iraqi armed forces, toppled Saddam regime, and reshaped political landscape of the country.
Iraqi certainly put up a fight with support of Arab volunteers from other countries and were able to kill thousands of American troops but US developed new types of vehicles to prevent casaulties. This was the lesson that US learned - LMAO.
Iraq had created a decent army but Saddam Hussein decided to challenge US on the issue of Kuwait. This shortsighted moron chose to bite more than he could chew.
Libya
You kidding? US-led forces toppled Qaddafi regime and called it a day. But Libya is ruined unfortunately.

US-led forces liberated South Korea while up against the combined might of North Korea, China, and USSR in 1953.
US-led forces defeated Serbia in support of Kosovo in 1999 (Operation Allied Force).

US fights a war in following ways:
1) To win
In this case, US will commit a large military force to defeat the enemy and conclude the war on acceptable terms. US demonstrated this capability in the Mexican-American War (1846 - 1848), World War 2 (1939 - 1945), and the Persian Gulf War (1991).
US can literally wipe out a country as well. US would have wiped out Japan in the Pacific War in 1945 but Japanese leadership of the time raised the white flag after watching destruction of Tokyo, Hiroshima, and Nagasaki.
2) To feed its MIC (war profiteering)
In this case, US will commit a small military force in enemy territory to do its bidding but the intent is to prolong the conflict to make it possible for the military contractors to develop arms and sell them. This is called war profiteering. This is apparent in the so-called War On Terror (2001 - ????). US have had the opportunity to develop and test different types of weapons and operational doctrines in a number of countries Afghanistan, Iraq, Libya, Pakistan, Syria, and Yemen. These experiments are a means to an end. Combat experience provides valuable insight for how to train troops, develop more capable weapons, and come up with battle doctrines that will work when the time comes.
No such thing as US wasting trillions in a war.

China and US were hostile to each other after World War 2 but found a way to work together. American investment in China came in droves and other countries followed suit. This is the impact of American soft power. Chinese acquired new skills and managed to developed their own companies in the process. This is how China became a giant.
But China has spooked Americans due to this, this, and this. Chinese economy is slowing down because US is tapping alternative markets to meet its needs. Bangladesh is one of these alternative markets but Bangladesh is slow to reciprocate - your call of course.
WE talk about the Vietnam War but Vietnam is rebuilding its bilateral relationship with the US and welcome American investments. Vietnamese are smarter than many of the boasters out there. Vietnamese have seen destructive war up close and have impressive battlefield achievements but they know better and are focused on nation building.
China and US should ideally find a way to work with each other for the betterment of mankind but... great power can make any side arrogant and eager to exploit others. Your celebration is premature.
Do not underestimate US, focus on how to develop Bangladesh. Be on good terms with all big powers. Keep your distance from Cold War 2.0 or you will get trampled in the process. When elephants fight, careless passersby can get trampled.
