What's new

Nirbhay Cruise Missile test failed.

Thank you very much . It is Sl. NO .259 and Tender Title "Modification of 1:7 scale wind tunnel ".

No probs:happy:

So what are the dimensions?
Again?

As per the 2nd diagram on the photo the length is given as 6036mm and diameter is given as 520mm.
Which comes to:
Length- 6.03 m without booster
Diameter- 0.52 m

For some reason the recent pictures suggest a bigger missile.

But if these are the dimensions...its same as tomahawk/Babur.

You can see at the end of the vid, if the reporter dude is 5 foot 6 or 7(my guess) then the missile looks 3 or 4 times bigger than him which means, yes it is around 6m.

Ok,so now for their subs, india has got 3 totally different missiles with nothing compatible with each other....
I am wondering how they will fit these missiles on the same sub...
Submarine launch capability for India seems to be far away.
They will have to come up with a launch system compatible with more than 3 differet types of missiles.

Missile size has little to do with Submarine compatibility.
For example The Tomahawk SLCM i.e. UGM-109 launches either horizontally via pressurized gas or vertically via water impulse, through torpedo tubes and Vertical Launch System respectively.
While in a torpedo tube the missile remains enclosed in its transport canister until it has cleared the torpedo tube. The canister is then ejected, and the booster ignites to propel the missile to the surface. After it is fully airborne, some protective covers are jettisoned, and the flight proceeds as in a surface launch.
While in a VLS tubes the canister is possibly not required as the sub nears the surface to launch the cruise missile.
So it is not the cruise missile which is undergoing change, it's the launch system which accommodates the missiles that changes.

thanks for info

Exactly....
Lets see what type(s) of submarine Launch systems india comes up with...
Posidon/trident and tomahawk were launched from ohio class subs via retrofit VLS tubes...
But here India has K-5, K-15 ballistic missiles....and Nirbhay,Brahmos cruise missiles..All 4 claimed to be eventually completing the triad....
So the complications will take years to overcome...
Make the missile then make a launch system which can be retrofitted into existing subs....and make the launch system for 4 types of missiles....
Good luck DRDO.....Keep making life difficult for yourself

There is no doomsday tomorrow, its obvious you wouldn't know or acknowledge how the so called making things difficult has been helping us today and will in future especially the kind of experience we a gained.

Brother,
K-5 and k 15 are land attack ballistic missiles,where k 15 is to arm our arihant class subs. Once k 5 is developed,we can forget k 15.
Then, there is Nirbhay and Brahmos,in which Nirbhay will be mainly used for Land attacks and BrahMos for anti ship operations, though the roles are interchangeble.

@Safriz I think sub launch version need atleast another 3 year for its first test so we have time.
Till that time sub launch brahmos will be ready to use.
