Why not an indigenous Pakistani jet engine?

We should start preliminary research now, and a low-level design project.

We can accelerate this as funds become available.

One cannot be 100 percent self reliant. Thats why diplomacy and maintaining a friendly relationship with everybody is important.
 
We don't have funds for basic necessities then how can we even think about engines ?
The first thing for any research is to start really small and then gradually work your way onto increasingly complicated projects. The biggest assistance to any R&D comes from a generous budget allocation towards the field and a heavy investment in education, esp. science and technology.
We also need electricity btw, it will be a marvel if we can only reduce the duration of black-outs.

No electricity, no money and now possibly no HEC means we'll make our own engines when other countries have already colonized Mars.
 
What is stopping Pakistan from building an indigenous jet engine?

The basic design is well known and I assume we can manufacture the requisite materials, so, other than patents, what is stopping us from developing/copying one ourselves?

I assume we have been servicing our military aircraft all these years, so we have some operational facilities also.

I am not being facetious. Clearly I am not a rocket scientist so I am quite curious what are the major hurdles.

Exactly. In all likelihood, it could take another 25 years for China, 50 for India and perhaps 75-100 years for Pakistan to catch up to the the state of art Materials Engineering of TODAY that is essential for jet engines. Even now, the next generation of jet engines, with orbital combustion technology to increase power and efficiency by another 20-25%, is another step forward, with many more to follow. Include other types of propulsion units such as ducted fans and hypersonic pulsejets, and clearly other nations have a LOT to catch up with.
 
Someone said something in my ear sometime ago -- I rejected it as a hoax -- according to that dude , we are well on our way to get home production tech for WS-13 as soon as its ready.

Mere ASSEMBLY is very different than MANUFACTURE.

A country the size of India cannot rely on other nations for it's defence hardware, but a country the size of Pakistan can, especially when you have higher than mountains and deeper than oceans friendship with the upcoming superpower ;)

WS-13 was already installed for few squadrons of JF-17, just in the testing phase to make sure it is 100% reliable while running on the aircraft.

I think soon there will have large number of JF-17 equipped with WS-13.
 
Do you guys even hear yourselves?! "Smooth talk the arabs"? ......beg?! Seriously, what is wrong with you people? Neither china nor india begged the world to fund their projects. This is certainly not the right way to look at this. I know nothing of china but i know how my country beat the odds.

Space program- The scientists used bicycles....BICYCLES! to transport their first project. They messed around with primitive every day technology to build what we have today. Everyone laughed at india then. Now ISRO is a pioneer in developing cutting edge space technology.

I request you to read the book "wings of fire" by A.P.J Abdul Kalam. This is a truly inspirational book. You will not regret reading it.

I don't want to ruin your fairy tale fantasy world, but India's space program received MASSIVE amounts of help from France and Russia.

Simplistic, feel good anecdotes for schoolkids are no substitute for a serious debate on what is hailed as the most complex piece of engineering created by the human brain.

Good post! Such is the situation in Pakistan that some of our people are looking to Arabs for help when they can't even help themselves. *facepalm*

I see materials science as analogous to integrated circuit manufacturing technology. It is possible to indigenize a lot of technology without having 100% self-sufficiency. The idea is to push back the imported technology envelope as low as possible.
 
Jet engine is first foremost and most difficult part of jet making, Engine's are no jokes, uptil now only Russians & Americans and Europeans r masters of this field, we can already see the miserable failure of Kaveri engine and we can also see the way Chinese with all their money pouring into R&D are still struggling for making good engines

I agree with your point, but only up to a point. One can design complex systems based on simpler IC chips that will work quite well, but for jet engines, it a different level of expertise.

For example, designing the blades of a high-pressure turbine assembly will need not only sophisticated design and testing facilities, but also the ability to grow hollow titanium-tantalum alloy crystals with very tight tolerances. And parts such as these nobody will sell to you unless its uses are tightly controlled. Further, design requirements dictate that these parts will not be interchangeable at all so cobbling together a jet engine from different sources is not likely to work.

pakistan is more self sufficient in defence hardware than ur mahaan baharat our exports are more than urs in this field :pakistan:
