@Goenitz If you don't watch this podcast then I will hunt you to the ends of the world. Death will be a mercy to you if you refuse to watch this podcast. I will cut you into pieces while making sure that you stay alive. This torment will make you wish that you watched this podcast in case you didn't. You will beg me for death but you will only die after extreme suffering.:sniper::pissed:

is this a new one? I will.
Anyway, you said that IK dodged his questions about economic policy. I think economy stems from a stable political system and accountability. For sure, good policies and resources etc follow.
Such as I think education and awareness can change Pakistan entirely (lower and higher). Sri Lanka has 95% primary literacy rate. You see the result. :P (nonetheless they were ruled by a family for 3 decades). So, IK knows what is the main pillar at least.

The problem with that is that his education reforms make no sense. I have explained numerous times on horrible his proposed SNC is. There is less emphasis on English, which is the global language of academia and less emphasis on STEM. Would it kill them to simply copy-paste a world-class curriculum? This proposed SNC is worse than the Afghan curriculum that was being taught in Afghanistan before the Taliban took over. I found it disheartening when IK bragged about his unsustainable growth during the last year of his tenure. What made me like IK was how he stabilized the economy during Hafeez Sheikh's tenure as the finance minister. Then he did a complete 180 as we discussed in the thread that we discussed this matter earlier.

I thought IK answered all his questions very well. Did not dodge anything. Not sure why someone would say that he did. If you want a policy wonk answer, then you won’t be getting that out of IK anyways. You get Moeed Yusuf types for that who have no electability.

That is what I argued, but to some, it may appear that IK lacks vision.

Though there is no silver bullet but accountability, even just truth/facts, alone can bring everything on track.

I refuse to believe anyone who doesn't present a solid plan to fix the problems of the country. Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman of Jamaat-e-Islami is the only politician who has been completely open about his plans for fixing the problems and his plan seems solid, though I have some minor disagreements.

I studied Urdu medium till my primary. It really helped me to understand math, geography, etc easily. Till 7th, my English was limited to ABC ;) .

You have to see the impact. there is too much burden on the student. People speak Pashto, Siraiki, etc. Their parents even don't know Urdu, let alone English. Then they have to learn Urdu (small feat). Then they have to learn English (a K2). Then learning Math, History etc in English (death). I still remember O-Level Islamiyat by Farkhanda Nur Muhammad. Old classical English. Took 6 months to understand her style, range of words, etc.

lastly, every nation progressed using their mother tongue. Arabs, Persian, Chinese, Italian, Korean, Japanese, etc.

Pakistan is not a nation so we don't have a single language but still a lingua franca which is Urdu. So let's say keep Urdu till 8th. Keep English as a language/subject but not a curriculum in English.

I still remember 'memorising' science definitions in English. After spending a year, I didn't know substance meant thing. :P

With the existence of Ed-tech, teaching English to children is no longer anywhere as difficult as before. Knowing English allows me to consume so much priceless knowledge from the internet and just knowing it opens so many doors for me that may not have opened for me if I didn't know English. The best time to teach languages is when the children are really young. Islamiyat by Farkhanda Nur Muhammad is an absolute masterpiece, that one book superior to Islamic Studies that is taught from metric to FSC/ICS. The problem is that Urdu is not the mother tongue of a very significant portion of our population, if Urdu is going to be a secondary language for these kids then might as well teach them English which will help them a lot more than Urdu.

People are poor bro
Sure, Higher Education should be in English as even if translate books, the discussion/papers are in English mainly.
Yes. Let's say till 12 years of age.
Yup. well researched and balanced book.
Urdu/Hindi is still a 2nd language or lingua franca from Afghanistan to Bihar.
English as a subject, yes. English curriculum, No. I still remember memorising tables in Punjabi. So, English medium students made fun of me. Besides segregation, it is easy for poor people to learn Islamiyat, history, math, etc in Urdu.

You can understand we have many good Urdu communists but how many are English columnists? If we change journalism to English language only, we will get doomed.

The government has more than enough money though :(

How do you think the kids from Urdu medium schools will be able to compete with the ones going to English medium schools? Let's pray that we start seeing rapid development in the Ed-tech sector so that these poor kids can also get access to good education. Muzumil did a podcast with a founder of an Ed-tech startup, his startup focuses on providing a decent education to children from rural areas. That podcast was awesome and it gave me a lot of hope for our youth.

Also props to you for succeeding in life the way you have despite studying in Urdu medium schools.

Just finished watching the whole thing. I like that he says everyone will have to move to the middle and things won’t be black and white, but grey. Hopefully that means competence will be the deciding factor to differentiate between the parties.

When he repeatedly mentions how hard it’s going to be the next few years, it really seems to be sinking in that reforms have to be imminent.

Even watched some of the interview with the Vice Chancellor? From Lums.

Curious to see who he has on this upcoming season.

This time he is going international, let's pray that he succeeds.

The one with Musharraf's son? He said that translating into the local language is the key.

It will take time to compete, but at least now you have 80-90 learned youth out of 100. The pool is bigger. English as a mode of education means we get 20 out of 100. Nonetheless, we need few scientists/professionals but a lot of skilled/vocational workforce.

Money is one problem. Do we speak English all day? How can a poor learn English if he uses Urdu/Pashto/Punjabi as the main language?
