What's new

By-elections Punjab Assembly 17 July 2022

What an amazing victory for PTI!!

Imran has run an aggressive and untiring campaign. He is still younger than a 50 year old man. He has so much commitment, focus and sincerity to his cause.

It was PTI against ECP+alliance of 13 parties+neutrals+biased media. There was open and naked interference from military and police. The administration was on Hamza Shehbaz side. He kept using administration & bureaucracy to coerce the public while SC despite its orders looked the other way.

Now it's an open secret that Punjab Police has Gullu Butts and army has Baghlol Butts. Gen Ayub was Baghlol-e-Azam, after him, ایک سے ایک بغلول آتا رہا. It will require changes in the army as we have envisaged.
Yes a massive revamp is necessary but can only happen if khan really wants it...... I hope he just doesn`t start doing "hamri fouj" again!!! Kiun k hamari to nhi hai!

SMQ has shown his loyalty to the party

current top leaders should be seen as necessary figures, until leaders can be promoted and trained through the ranks, but that will take at least a decade, most likely two.

SMQ has skills in oration, debating from logic, and decades of international experience. It’s a skill set that should not be discounted until we have others just as capable. In the mean time, he is probably the best choice as IK’s deputy and would make an excellent leader in training the younger cadre of the party.

i agree with his abilities no doubt, let's hope things go that way, they could make party an institution, needed for its survival.

IK must iterate this again and again despite Bajwa had/has some differences.

I know Army brat is not that intelligent to play 4D chess, in fact no one in Pakistan, perhaps except Zardari. But did Bajwa did that deliberately? Perhaps the US was seriously angry and could arm twist through IMF, FATF, arming India, etc? Hence, Bajwa played good cop on top and acted well like arresting journalists, manhandling protests, partially rigging elections, etc.

Meanwhile PDM + Establishment + Judiciary +ECP got exposed and lost political ideology/public devoutness. I mean this was a massive win.

The result is the US thinks that yes army is on their side like past, PMLN is nearly dead plus internal feud, but economy sank.

Won't matter due to disproportionate and undue number of seats in interior Sindh, which only has bout 40% of the total population of Sindh yet enjoys 65% of the seats thanks to neutrals and establishment.
And MQM..the 2022 census will now not happen

Next federal givt has to ensure karachi gets its mandate..census and aeating allocation is NOT A PROVINCIAL MATTER BUT FEDERAL MATTER

the only reason it didnt happen is due to deal between zardari and establishment

Regardless of the perception of his mandate, Shahbaz sits in the PM's office. It is Shahbaz's responsibility to make this choice until the outcome of next election is officially accepted.
You do not understand how things work here. PM cannot make decisions independently. After 18th amendment, much of your financial issues are sorted out by provinces themselves respectively. Now in current situation, its PTI who will have the power in 2 major provinces KP and Punjab, followed up by GB and Azad Kashmir. So federal govt of imported Crime minister in Islamabad has no power to dictate economic decisions on other provinces especially in Punjab which happens to be your biggest province and controlling 70% of your wealth. Imported crime minister would had been in better position if they had Punjab behind their back.

I meant the macro economic levers like fuel influenced inflation and exchange rate. Is the fuel subsidy not controlled at the federal level? I don't know if your provinces can independently add levy or subsidy to petrol. Who does the central bank in Pakistan answer to? :undecided:

so lets just suppose whatever you say is right even though American are no fools! but for a moment if you consider that than the question arises...was that good for the country? for its economy? is army suppose to protect Pakistan or fold under the slightest of pressures?

I think they thought they could control economy like how worse it can go. Pak army was getting radars, new jets, ships etc like India. Perhaps, they thought IK has done well (economy, nationalism, reputation of armed forces, foreign relations such China, Gulf etc). Now, lets make the US happy who hasn't put its ambassador in 3.5 years for armed goods, aid etc. More like not to left behind while India is leaping with the US.

In a nut shell all backfired. reputation, economy, US relation, etc. The US govt know that when public is not their side, figurehead don't matter.

Bhutto made Americans fool that he will role back the nuclear assets. Once, he delayed Kisenger that elections are coming. 2nd time he excused something else and borrowed time.

If you look closely, no model town occurred. Whatever damage was done to politicians, journalists, etc was minimum but believable that Bajwa is looking for the US interests. However, the PDM sank the economy so fast. You should know that not only Bilawal convinced teh US deep state like his mother did during Mushi era (conda lisa rice= anaconda), but NS sitting in London conspired with UK, US, India etc. You have to convince or act upon international establishment to be on your side.

Imagine if Mushi had a chance to tell Bush that I need to convince public or political parties to make decisions. So much could be saved. Hence, to make GHQ free from this curse, Bajwa paved the way for the international establishment to consult all stakeholders. Hence, not easy for them to negotiate on their terms by just talking to GHQ. In other words, he has distributed the burden,
