What's new

Pakistan's indigenous built JF - 17 Block III to get state of the art AESA Radar, ECM and Missiles

Block 4 with rcs reduction and several fifth gen technologies. Probably 2022 onwards.
so that semi stealth version originally slated to be blk 3 will be made afterall?

10 sqn with min 16 Ac that’s 160 and with 18 180 to go so total jf order can go up to 260-280 ish for 15-17 sqn which will leave only 4 additional f-16 sqn totalling 20-22 fighter sqn

Assuming next new aircraft will be to start replacing f-16 aircraft some where in 2030-40
arent we in prehistoric era as compared to world if we will induct 5th gen in 2030-40 when world will be inducting 6th gen fighter and 7th gen fighter research going on?

Almost certainly. 250 minimum but i doubt the final number may go higher.
The AESA is being upgraded on block 1 and 2 as well. The upgrade package for block 1 and 2 include many things from block 3 other than air frame and engine.

Pak is third world country since when it trying to match the west ? Even the west I mean USA the only 5th gen country

How sure are you about this? It needs a lot of changes which Blk1/2 frames cannot accomodate; hence 17B frame is very likely to be adopted for Blk 3.

out of 200 countries there are barely a dizen airforces! You are tslking about 6th gen...countries are still looking for piston bombrts

Can't wait for Block III, BUT I think it will take some time as due to Changes in airframe, until we should continue production of JF 17 BlockII. By 2025, We should reach minimum 200 numbers including Block1 upgrades with few Block III flying around.

Those of you looking for dramatic RCS reduction measures in blk 3 may be disappointed but the percentage of composites will be increased to further reduce the RCS. The EW suite will be quite advanced and may be able to spoof/ jam or confuse multiple radars/ seekers simultaneously. Increased payload and a chin pylon is likely and the AESA is a done deal. The engine output may also be increased slightly but is not a given.

Overall, the blk 3 will be a huge upgrade, a milestone for the PAF and will give it a huge boost in confidence. The mere presence of an AESA equipped fighter in the air will keep the enemy at bay. However, the final number of this blk will not exceed 50 due to cost. It may cost $40 million plus, perhaps more.

The dramatic RCS reduction measures may happen in the fourth block. CAC is already studying options to incorporate in blk 4.

I agree that this is a bit wishful. I think if an air cooled AESA becomes available and the performance ids radically different then possibly yes. Otherwise I dont see the need to have a fleet wide AESA Radar. You need one to 2 ACs with AESA in a package to guide the others who operate wih their radars shut.
My 2 paisas worth.

AVIC air cooled AESA is available as an upgrade option for smaller aircraft and can be swapped without major changes to the airframe.

Thank you. I am aware of the development. My understanding is currently the range of this radar is less than the current radar on Block 2s. Secondly what I am talking about is the actual necessity of changing radars when the PD radars are working effectively.Even if we had 1-2 planes per squadron guiding the other planes who operate with their radars shut and deploy weapons as directed by the AESA radar lead plane or even the AWACs, then do we actually in our resource constrained environment need to change the radar. The next question that I have is what happens to the radars which are taken out. Are they bought back by the parent company or can they be used else where and for what purpose.?
