The ruling Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Friday rejected rumors that President Asif Ali Zardari has secretly tied the knot in the US with a Pakistani doctor based in Boston.
Rumors abound on Zardaris remarriage with Tanveer Zamani, 40, who has declined to comment.
The presidents office has not only rebutted but also condemned the report as baseless propaganda against Zardaris personal life, The Nation reported Friday.
The PPP deplored and condemned the launch of a vicious and unethical tirade on the internet against its co-chairman, spokesperson of the president, Farhatullah Babar, was quoted as having said in a statement.
Pakistans ambassador to US, Hussain Haqqani, has also denied reports about Zardaris remarriage with Tanveer Zamani, the Pakistani daily said.
With due respect, this is utter nonsense, Haqqani said in a statement.
Another Pakistani newspaper, The News, said that the 40-year-old surgeon linked to the rumors, responded differently when approached for comments.
The Sindh Medical College graduate, who did her PhD in political science from Ireland in 1996 before moving to US, is of Mediterranean descent and reportedly lives in Manhattan, New York.
She is also a Democrat supporter who also participated in the 2008 US election campaign. She actively campaigned for President Barack Obamas health care reform bill.
According to The News, Zamani said she would not say anything but she had sought legal advice on how to handle the rumor.
Personal matters are a very low priority. We have to handle the Egypt situation, the prices situation (in Pakistan), introduce Bilawal as the PPP leader, and many other issues. Personal issues come very low on my priority, she was quoted as saying.
