Well, in our case it was mitti ki thikri with small holes in it at number 3 to separate tobbaco from coals.

that is right, in our part of Punjab its like this,
-small round thikiri
-tobacco (sometimes little sugar or gurh is also added)
-coals in the middle
-then covered with ash
