They tried to escape justice, but the GoI put enormous pressurre on Italy, and even threatened to arrest their ambassador (in what would have been a daring first) if the marines did not return. They also threatened to cut off diplomatic and trade relations with Italy, because justice for our slain fishermen comes before multibillion dollars in trade.

And by the way the case is not being tried by the Kerala high court, but by a special court set up by the supreme court in Delhi.

You really ought to be more informed, before commenting like this. The Italian marines saga was one of those rare instances in which India displayed remarkable willpower, and exercised her enormous clout to pressurize a European country into obeying our law and honouring our courts.

Then there was Dr. Subramanian Swamy who filed an application in court seeking the arrest of the Italian diplomat for making false promise to the court.

After filing that case, the matter was out of the congress and govt. hand and it became a legal matter with direct jurisdiction of the Supreme Court.

It is the SC which then directed the Italian ambassador not to leave the country and thus escalated the matter forcing Italy to comply to Indian demands.

With Dr. Sawamys court case, the matter would still have been with the govt. and god knows how they would have acted.

i did't make up any thing. this case is initially investigated by kerala police. if you check the news you can see that. MMS break his silence days after the italian gov's statement. and the kerala congress was has a great pressure from opposition party and from the people of Kerala. the media's prime focus was on this.
