Here in UK for a staff, fire safety test is compulsory. It is a certified online test where you read the pages and give answer in the end. It tracks your progress so you cannot skip to question directly.
Same goes for any job like doing work in a pizza shop. There are allergy familiarisation test, food related test, hygiene, all online .

In pak, i tried to be a scout so that I could give the first aid when necessary. It was organised in summer by my school. However, to complete the program, murree trip/camp was necessary. My mom refused due to safety concern (2001). Not terrorism but of some fall from mountain etc.

Besides that, I really want that there should be some swimming centre (in Pak) as it can be handy someday in the life.

Well, I don't remember what they taught decades ago. So my vote stays No

Many thanks for your candid input, it is highly appreciated. Can I ask one more question, provided you would still be interested in learning the basics of keeping yourself and others safe in an emergency in the home or elsewhere, what is the main barrier for you. Is it time, money, logistics, lack of available or engagement from service providers or something else, please feel free to elaborate.

Once again, thank you so much. :)

It would seem you have not read what I have asked in my opening post, please revisit what I am asking. It is good to critique, I welcome it, but rather than just post a rebuke, why not identify solutions?
And that is why my study into public perception and preparedness is important :).
There are schemes in Pakistan which is the subject of my study, I am asking if you have had any experience of interacting with any of these namely civil defence, red crescent, NVM, 1122 etc? And if so, what was your experience?
You raise a very valid point of corruption and nepotism, sadly this is a recurring them I hear and see often, thank you for sharing.
Again thank you for this valuable input :).
But I would like to play devil's advocate and ask, if we have a police force, why do we then lock our doors?

Govt doesn't help you in such activities, unless, you are the husband of the sister of Prime ministers wife.
However, I have seen some such examples in outer world. In some European countries, people enroll for fire fighters duty, voluntarily. That department either provides job for them(without pay), or conducts drills that teaches these candidates about fire fighting.
NCC was a kind of a good such example in Pakistan, where one department was teaching a large number of volunteers the art of war and about war situation.
But see, when deputy commissioners are deputed without commission exam, then what we are talking about?

Basically It's time because I am non-resident now, However, I would like my kids to have some basic safety training but don't know if there's any such training programs available or not. Their school is more into waste of time activities.

Well everything you say resonates with me, but I tend to look at a problem and build a solution, corruption and nepotism are the rotten fruits of the mind seed sown by the raj, the Sahib's may have long left but they left behind a culture of sycophancy and unbridled greed for personal growth over the betterment of the populace.

Now we can sit here and lament over what we have or we can use what we have to make things better. After all, those who struggled to give us this nation, took what scraps they had and made the best of it, and in doing so did what many seemed impossible.

Yes, educating children is the key to bringing a culture change, the children and youth are our future, please may I be bold enough to ask, are your children in Pakistan or abroad? Many thanks and god bless you.

Here is a list from my side, and good luck with that (I will start work on these after I will get majority of the haramis of this country killed):
1) Fire safety and aftermaths of a big fire in a big building or community
2) Community safety (like from loot mobs) when something big happens on national level( like when Benazir was neutralized)
3) Building collapse and rubble removal
4) Community management in case of a Nuclear attack.
5) Survey conduction (for example to help govt in census )
6) Safety/aftermath from air raids
7) Earth quick management (Its a big topic) .....
8) Floods and aftermath(Dams khud nahi bnanay or ilzam Sindh per)
9) Establishment of secondary departments in case if primary departments become non-functional (may be due to no funds or atomic attack )
10) Organic/non-organic Garbage/waste collection and disposal (in case all baldia machinery die, or may be they already are)
11) Emergency food and water supplies management(in case of war, earth quick)

May be it help you.

Dear members,

As part of my ongoing research into community resilience particularly relating to community based disaster education in Pakistan, I am conducting a number of surveys, both online and offline, as defence.pk has a very broad membership base of young and mature members who have an interest in serving their country, I would be obliged if you can do me the honour of answering this simple poll.

Rules:
1. Please be honest
2. If you select a particular training provider/organisation please can you elaborate as to where and when you received the training and did this make you less or more confident in caring for yourself and others in the event of an emergency.
3. If you select "no" then please can you explain what is the barrier to you receiving this training? Is it lack of available courses? difficulty in getting onto a course? bureaucracy? cultural or socio-economic pressures, etc...

Finally if you have any critique of training you have received, I would welcome it :).

Thank you in advance.

Do you want a response from Pakistanis abroad?
