Dear members,

As part of my ongoing research into community resilience particularly relating to community based disaster education in Pakistan, I am conducting a number of surveys, both online and offline, as defence.pk has a very broad membership base of young and mature members who have an interest in serving their country, I would be obliged if you can do me the honour of answering this simple poll.

Rules:
1. Please be honest
2. If you select a particular training provider/organisation please can you elaborate as to where and when you received the training and did this make you less or more confident in caring for yourself and others in the event of an emergency.
3. If you select "no" then please can you explain what is the barrier to you receiving this training? Is it lack of available courses? difficulty in getting onto a course? bureaucracy? cultural or socio-economic pressures, etc...

Finally if you have any critique of training you have received, I would welcome it :).

Thank you in advance.

I don't live in Pakistan. Can I help?

. . . . .
I tried to volunteer for Pakistan Red Cross while living in the twin cities but it was online. Didn't even get a replying email confirming the process.
I wanted to spare time for social work and also get BLS training which I think is crucial. For now, I will have to rey on tv seires and movies to how to use CPR etc.
No universities offer BLS (generally [ except some medical colleges]), And I think it won't be easy to get training by govt institutes. The financial aspect also has to be noted. Unless someone has a job or has a business, you can't expect them to pay to learn from such a basic essential training. Neither is their much information or marketing done to raise awareness etc. I travel pass Rescue 1122 Station alot (before Covid) and do sometimes ponder to visit them and get information if they provide BLS support ( free prefferably) but just couldn't spare time fearing it will be a waste of time and won't get any positive reply.

Thank you very much for this detailed response, this is just the sort of thing I am looking for. Perfect.

Training material provided was found to be not accessible and worked under assumptions.

The following may be of some help in understanding the broad scope of disaster education:

Why people need to learn that? Pakistan has a department for that, and I hope they are getting paid too.
BTW, in Pakistan, govt and departments don't take action till it become cancer or Disaster.
BTW, in the countries where govts and departments care about people, individual departments announce volunteer vacancies. Interested people join for a term, or enroll with local franchise of that department, where they are called when needed, and hence the training. But this is totally irrelevant for Pakistan, because there is no scheme for loot and plunder in it. So only universities may be interested.

I already explained a lot sir. Please ask anything from the whole comment.
It would seem you have not read what I have asked in my opening post, please revisit what I am asking. It is good to critique, I welcome it, but rather than just post a rebuke, why not identify solutions?

And that is why my study into public perception and preparedness is important :).

There are schemes in Pakistan which is the subject of my study, I am asking if you have had any experience of interacting with any of these namely civil defence, red crescent, NVM, 1122 etc? And if so, what was your experience?

But this is totally irrelevant for Pakistan, because there is no scheme for loot and plunder in it.

You raise a very valid point of corruption and nepotism, sadly this is a recurring them I hear and see often, thank you for sharing.

So only universities may be interested.

Again thank you for this valuable input :).

But I would like to play devil's advocate and ask, if we have a police force, why do we then lock our doors?
