Young Taiwanese need to read Western history on secession and reunification

So 88% of these Taiwanese youths don't want reunification. :(

I don't think your little Facebook threat is going to change their minds, Martin.

With youth, you need to entice them with pop culture like K-pop and Japanese Anime/Manga.

When they are adults, you then entice them with wealth.

P. S. What happened to @Kolaps? haven't seen him around. :(

Communist reputation outside the mainland is bad.

Many people in Taiwan are very happy to what is happening in mainland right now.

It's just the communist label and uncertainly about mainland ideology stand, scare most of Taiwanese.

I don't say China should adopt democracy, but embracing Confucianism is very good enough. :-)

And US propaganda is huge in Taiwan right now.

well..look to the west for answers may not be such a good idea since the Scottish referendum happened last year

Time to take a more firm and pressing stance toward taiwan, the mainland has been too soft in the past decade

I hear that all the time... but no action taken. :omghaha:

Taiwan is sinking faster than others....

China leaves Taiwan little room for maneuver, except some international economic institutions. This leaves the area vulnerable to foreign influence, especially the US influence.

Taiwan's academia is pretty much ignorant toward socialist theories. Hence the youth grows up with little real knowledge of socialist thinking.

But the perception that China is a backward socialist country is crumbling, which can be understood from the fact that more Taiwanese youth wish to work in China after graduation. There is definitely a rediscovery.

Taiwanese can look back very long time it was separated from China, from ancient time...., not for short time under rule of Qing Dynasty China's until 1895.

Taiwan is a USA brainwashing center. Forget about any peaceful resolution. An amphibious attack is the only long-term solution. Blood will be spilled because parents are too ignorant to protect their children from USA and Japan cultural influence but rather welcome it.

. . . .
This is my pure speculation and opinion. I am no expert but I still like to share my piece.

If the DPP is stupid enough to provoke China, I would think Taiwan would last maximum one week. Forget all the talk from the Americans. They would not come to help Taiwan. Why? Because it would mean sacrificing a couple of aircraft carrier groups and many American lives. This war would only be localised to Taiwan as any escalation would have terrible consequences for both China, US and the rest of the world.

But let's take this scenario a little bit further.

Assuming China is not successful the first time (which is highly unlikely), China can attack the second or third time over the next few months. I don't think the Americans are able to sustain that. If they do, they won't have too many aircraft carrier groups left. (They need them to cause trouble in other parts of the world, i.e. Middle East, North Africa and Latin America ).

Now back to reality:

Today, whether Taiwan likes it or not, Taiwan is being slowly "absorbed and enmeshed" with China's economy. The Chinese leaders know that, they will just sit and wait. There is no need to do anything rash. For every passing day, China is getting stronger economically, politically, technologically and militarily. No need to worry about Taiwan, there are other more important things to worry about.

Key Fact:
Thirty years ago, it was all talk from China about attacking Taiwan.
Today, thirty years later, it is all talk from America about supporting Taiwan

Taiwan has no where to go, its future depends on Mainland period. Both economies are integrated with each other and cooperation will only increase. It's being pulled into Mainland's sphere of influence as we speak. Since the last Taiwan Strait crisis no one dared to try that prank again while China's strength has multiplied in the past 2 decades. The fact US shall never share submarine tech with or selling F-35 to our renegade province speaks volume. Mainland doesn't have to use force as long as they keep their sanity intact. They even have to accommodate China by using "Chinese Taipei" in the Olympics and as a joining member of AIIB. Taiwan is Mainland's little gem, lots of tech companies and ranking 5th of the most patent holder, lots of forex and we have plenty of agents infiltrated inside their defence ;).

Think about it this way, to put into perspective:

Taiwan's population = 23 million
Taiwan's GDP (nominal) = $505 Billion (USD)
Taiwan's Growth Rate = 2%

compare to

Vietnam's Population = 90 million
Vietnam's GDP (nominal) = $180 Billion (USD)

Philippines Population = 100 Million
Philippines GDP (nominal) = $280 Billion (USD)

Combined = $460 Billion (USD)
---------------

The combined economies of Philippines and Vietnam do not even equal Taiwan's, not to mention even compare to Taiwan's GDP per capita (nominal), which is around $21,000 (USD). Quite impressive for an island state whose entire population is literally just 1/7th that of both Vietnam and the Philippines , combined. East Asian efficiency and excellence cannot be compared.

@TaiShang, your input?

yes quite impressive, anyway full integration is just a matter of time. And time we have while our muscles are expanding rapidly.
