'You should consider our feelings': for Chinese students the state is an extension of family

We all know that and that's actually exactly what China wants, to keep the situation stable and play for time.
Since you love to cite the UN, especially whenever its opinions coincides with China's interests, are you willing to at least agree with its ideas, if not official statements ?

What if, sometime in the future, the majority of the UN membership agrees that while there is only 'one China', there is also a Taiwan, and that in exchange for official recognition of Taiwan as a member state, Taiwan give up its claim to be 'China' ?

For all practical purposes, parts of that are already happening. Taiwanese really do not care to be called 'Chinese' but as Taiwanese. The Taiwanese government have its own foreign affairs independent of China. The UN tolerate Taiwan if not give its public approval of being a distinct state. Of all the features of what make credible an independent state, self defense is the most prominent, and Taiwan is fully capable of that.

If that happened that means the whole UN structure is changed and China must be very weak again, if so , China might as well accept that like she did many time over 100 years ago. Any claims must be backed by one's national strength and power. If China can follow the present path and to become No.1 in the world, what you assumed scenarios won't happen.

Yes, it is possible. The US is currently no. 1 and do you see everything going our way ?

. . .
The US is currently no. 1. Do you see everything going our way ? Simple question, no ?
Yes, you are still No.1, but not as powerful as you used to be and I don't see everything go your way.

So what make you think the UN -- in the future -- will rule or be swayed by China's argument regarding Taiwan ?

If anything, you should take the US position as no. 1 as example. Many countries go against US just because we are no. 1, not because we actually done anything against them. Many will go against US even though we have helped them in past. Being no. 1 guarantees very little, but one of those guarantees is that many will not side with you no matter how good you are to them. The US saved China in WW II. Did that helped US ?

Buddy...Let us grant that China will be no. 1. The UN might just decide to jab China in the eyes and vote to admit Taiwan as a full standing member. What are you going to do ? Declare war on the whole world ?

I never did, I won't rule out anything in the future, I said let's wait and see.

You helped us and we helped you, you helped us because you wanted to help yourself. Please don't sound like you did that purely out of upholding justice and kindness.

you can keep playing it wont make any difference. probably the next generation of taiwanese will not even remember the history after 60 years. The new generation used to absolute freedom and democracy will just not be interested in being part of a autocratic state.

Once you have tasted freedom under a true democracy , not the sham ones.... , its impossible to go back to living under a dictatorship like china.
Forget taiwan which will always remain a pipedream for the chinese , a free HK movement might prove to be the real pain for china.

Pro-Independence Posters Trigger Tensions at Hong Kong University
Students from Chinese mainland and Hong Kong clash over Hong Kong independence posters in Chinese University of Hong Kong

By Charlotte Gao
September 08, 2017

Since the first day of the new semester, the students of Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) have found that they have been surrounded by banners and posters supporting Hong Kong independence on campus. A video captured a girl trying to tear down the posters triggers tensions not only physically on campus, but remotely on the Internet. The CUHK president has sent open letter in response, asking all the students and faculty to maintain the learning environment peaceful.

In multiple prominent places in the CHUK campus, posters and banners such as “Refuse to drown; independence is the only way,” “Fight for our homeland. Fight for Hong Kong,” and “Hong Kong independence” could be spotted as the school started recently. The university tried to remove the posters in the first place, but the removal led to strong resistance from the Chinese University Student Union (CUSU), who later filled the posters on the “democracy wall” at the Benjamin Franklin Centre’s Cultural Square and guarded them accordingly, Hong Kong Free Press reported.

On September 6, a video captured a girl speaking Mandarin and English trying to tear down the posters went viral on Chinese social media. In the three-minute video, the girl argued with the members of CUSU in English that she, who is also a CHUK student, disagreed with what was posted on the wall. “Talking about democracy, you have the right to put it up; I have the right to tear it down.” said the girl, “ and I disapprove you guys to shoot me with cameras.”
The girl then won thousands of thumbs-ups in Chinese mainland’s social media, and most mainland netizens praised her for her courage to confronting the HK students and her fluent English compared to her rivals. A group of mainland netizens even decided to “attack” CUSU’s Facebook page by posting numerous critical comments. Beyond the Internet, physical clashes also took place on campus, when posters with an opposing stance were pasted upon the posters supporting HK independence.

On September 7, CUHK Vice-Chancellor and President, Prof. Joseph J.Y. Sung published his open letter on his blog, despite the fact that he is currently attending an academic conference overseas. In the letter, he said:

The idea of an independent Hong Kong is not only in breach of the Basic Law of Hong Kong but also contrary to what I personally believe. Hong Kong is an inalienable part of China; this is beyond dispute…Our campus is a place for learning. It should not be turned into a political arena.

He also called on all the students to “conduct the discussion or debate in a respectful and patient manner” and “maintain the learning environment peaceful.”

Unfortunately, Sung’s open letter has brought about more resistance from the CUSU. To make matters worse, in order to support their counterparts, other Hong Kong universities’ student unions have started to fill posters supporting independence in their campus as well.

Earlier in July, Chinese President Xi Jinping warned Hong Kong not to cross the “red line.” “Any attempt to endanger China’s sovereignty and security, … or use Hong Kong to carry out infiltration and sabotage activities against the mainland is an act that crosses the red line,” he said.

China never expects a quick reunion, we care more about making us wealthy and powerful, once we achieve that goal , all other things will come with it. We don't need a chaotic Taiwan now like the one you Indians have in Kashmir to divert our attention and slow down our development. Stability is everything for today's rising China.

I never did,..
In post 35, you said what I proposed "won't happen".

You helped us and we helped you, you helped us because you wanted to help yourself. Please don't sound like you did that purely out of upholding justice and kindness.
That is not the point, which is that being no. 1 guarantees very little, even if you helped people and countries out of altruism, like humanitarian missions in times of natural disasters, for example. The US do those missions without calling in any chits, if anything, simply because we know it would be disregarded. We helped in those times because it is the right thing to do. It is funny that you have no problems attributing the best of humanity towards your China when convenient, but the most cynical when it comes to US, even when we have a longer history of helping other countries than your China have.
